Blair County Business Hall of Fame Honorees Announced
The 2012 inductees into the Blair County Business Hall of Fame as well as the recipients of the General Business Awards of Distinction have been announced by The Chamber. Business Hall of Fame inductees are: Alpha (formerly known as Cookson Electronics), Child Advocates of Blair County, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona and Hoss’s Steak & Sea House. Times Tribune Company will be honored in the Heritage category. In the General Business Awards, East Loop Sand Company, L.R. Webber Associates and New Look Uniform Shop/Blair Digitizing Embroidery Manufacturing Co., Inc. will be honored for Excellence in Small Business. Altoona Mirror, Forever Broadcasting and M&T Bank will receive recognition for Community Service. McLanahan Corporation is the Safety Excellence Award winner; Penn State Altoona SIFE nets the first-ever Sustainability Award; EcoIslands, LLC wins the Technology Award and the Committee Choice honoree will be Operation SOS.  All award recipients will be honored at the Business Hall of Fame Dinner on October 15th at the Blair County Convention Center.

Blair Business Mirror to be Published Tomorrow
Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission is the cover story for this month’s issue of the Blair Business Mirror which hits the streets on Tuesday as a supplement to the Altoona Mirror. Inside features of the publication include a story on Paradigm Solutions, a Q&A feature on Carl Bennett of Building II and an update on The Chamber’s Municipal Forum which focused on blight. It’s great reading! If you don’t get the Altoona Mirror, take comfort in the fact that we mail a copy of the Business Mirror to each Chamber-member business.

July's "Buy Here. Live Here." Newsletter Available Online
The July edition of the Buy Here. Live Here. online newsletter is now available and features an article on The Summit Tennis & Athletic Club, a local business that has changed its buying habits to include more local vendors. If you haven’t received the newsletter it means that you haven’t yet signed a pledge card saying that you will attempt to buy at least 10% more of your products and services from local providers. You can access a pledge card either by visiting The Chamber Office or by visiting the website at http://www.buyherelivehere.com/.

Who Are Your Role Models? Let Us Know!
The Chamber’s newest educational program, known as “Role Models,” will provide an hour at noontime (lunch included) in which two business leaders will talk about what has made them successful. They will interact with attendees and answer questions that will provide great insight for those people who aspire to their level of success. The Role Models program will start in late September. Who will the first two business leaders be? That’s up to you. We’re inviting Chamber members as well as non-members to submit the names of people who they would like to listen to and with whom they would like to interact. From those responses, we will compile a list so that Role Models can be ongoing. To submit a name (or names) for consideration, email Joe Hurd  or mail suggestions to Hurd at 3900 Industrial Park Drive, Suite 12, Altoona, PA 16602.

Privilege Pages Provide Great Value at a Low Price
If you were able to send an 8 ½ by 11 inch marketing piece about your business or organization to more than 1,100 business people for only $125, would you? Well several smart Chamber Members have been using “Privilege Pages” for quite some time. These marketing pieces are inserted in the monthly issues of the Blair Business Mirror that are direct mailed to The Chamber’s membership list. They are an effective way to hit a target audience that is often hard to reach. If you want your business to gain a competitive edge, call Jessica Meck at The Chamber today at 943-8151 and reserve your Privilege Page.

Chamber Seeking Fall Intern
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is seeking an intern for the Fall Semester. The intern should be majoring in Business Management, Marketing or Communications. The internship can be either for credit or personal enrichment. Interested students should contact Linda Stotler at 943-8151.

Great Electric Rates Still Available from Chamber Energy Program
If your business is a member of the Blair County Chamber and you haven’t enrolled in a discount program for electricity, you’re already losing money. To remedy that situation, check out The Chamber’s commercial energy program through OnDemand Energy. The rates are great and the service is outstanding. Simply visit the website at http://www.ondemandenergy.com/ and see what you’ve been missing!

Does Your Business Qualify for a Ribbon Cutting?
Has your business recently re-located, renovated or changed its appearance in any way? Then call The Chamber at 943-8151 and ask for Linda Stotler to schedule a ribbon-cutting. The Chamber Ambassadors, along with Chamber staff and any available elected officials will come to your location, cut a ribbon and take a photo that will then appear in an upcoming issue of the Blair Business Mirror. And the best thing is, there’s no cost involved. Don’t miss-out on an opportunity to promote your business. Call today!
