Commercial Electric Program Meeting Tomorrow Morning
The commercial electricity market has changed considerably since the rate caps were removed in the Penelec region more than three years ago.  One thing that hasn’t changed is that the ChamberChoice Energy Program through OnDemand Energy remains one of the best bargains available.  More than 300 businesses and organizations that are Blair County Chamber members are part of ChamberChoice and not likely to change anytime soon. “It’s been such a good deal that we want to provide everyone in our membership the opportunity to sign-on,” explained Chamber President Joe Hurd. “Once they hear the details, I’m certain they’ll be interested.” Those details will be presented tomorrow morning at a meeting beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Cheryl Hefft of OnDemand will do a presentation that will be no longer than one hour in length (including questions). There is no cost or obligation associated with attending.  Call The Chamber at 943-8151 to register or just show-up.

Meeting for Chamber’s London Trip Set for Tomorrow Night
Tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m., The Chamber will host an informational meeting on its upcoming trip to London (October 26 to November 2). The trip, priced at just $2,299/person (including airfare), is an opportunity that even the most experienced international travelers won’t be in a hurry to pass-up. The Chamber has partnered with Heritage Travel of Altoona and Chamber Discoveries in offering the trip. Chamber Members and non-members alike are welcome to attend the informational meeting which will be held in the boardroom of the Devorris Center for Business Development. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151.

LBC Youth Project to Benefit Baker Mansion
The final session of The Chamber’s Leadership Blair County Youth program will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. The class will spend a large segment of it time undertaking a project at Baker Mansion in which it will spruce-up the grounds and do whatever tasks are necessary to prepare the Mansion for the many visitors that will come there within the next few months. The LBC Youth Class will graduate on May 8th.  For more information on LBC Youth, contact Judy Juda at 943-8151 or visit the Chamber Website.

Bedford Tax Assessor to Address Legislative Action Committee
Melissa Border is the Chief Tax Assessor for Bedford County.  In that role, she had the difficult task of overseeing Bedford County’s Property Tax Reassessment. Border will describe the reassessment process at the next meeting of The Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee this Thursday beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center. Although the meeting is the regularly scheduled meeting of the committee, any Chamber Member who would like to attend can do so by contacting Joe Hurd at 943-8151.

Chamber Committee Will Partner on Judicial Debate
The Blair County Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee will partner with Blair Countians for Drug-Free Communities and Penn State Altoona’s Division of Student Affairs on a judicial debate involving the three candidates for Blair County judge. The debate will be held on Thursday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the Penn State Altoona Devorris Downtown Center. Former Blair County Commissioner Donna Gority, a member of the Legislative Action Committee, will serve as moderator. Questions for the debate will be supplied by the three partnering organizations. There is no cost to attend and the public is invited.

Eleven Spots Remain for Highmark/Chamber Golf Classic
Only eleven spots remain for the 2013 Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield/Chamber Golf Classic. Currently, 133 golfers have registered to play. The popular event is set for Monday, May 13th at Iron Masters Country Club in Ore Hill. The price of participating remains the same -- $150-per-golfer and $600 for a foursome – and that includes golf, a delicious luncheon, a special gift for each golfer, a post-Classic reception and Comfort Carts that keep the golfers hydrated. For the second consecutive year, the event will feature a ball drop, coordinated through Pine Bottom Aviation Services of Martinsburg. To reserve a team or an individual spot in this year’s event, contact The Chamber at 943-8151. Tickets for the Ball Drop can also be purchased at The Chamber for just $5.00 each.

“Role Models” Program is May 16th at Convention Center
The Blair County Chamber’s “Role Models” program will be held on Thursday, May 16th from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center. Ann Benzel of Belzel’s Bretzel Bakery in Altoona and Joe DelGrosso of DelGrosso Foods in Tipton will be the featured business leaders who will participate in the Q&A format. The cost to attend Role Models is $25 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members. Lunch is included. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
