Chamber Office Closed Monday for Memorial Day
The Blair County Chamber Office will be closed on Monday in commemoration of Memorial Day. The Office will re-open on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. To register for Chamber programs and events or to secure information on The Chamber while the Office is closed, visit The Chamber website.

Retail Roundtable to Interact With High School Students
Students from Bishop Guilfoyle High School will comprise a panel that will allow local retailers to gain a better sense of what young shoppers are looking for (and expecting) when they enter a retail establishment. The panel discussion will take place on Wednesday beginning at 8:15 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development as part of The Chamber’s Retail Roundtable meeting. Any retailer who would like to attend the meeting should call Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.

Sustainability Coalition Working on Partnership With Colleges
The Chamber’s Coalition on Sustainability has already created a format for Model School Environmental Clubs.  The Coalition is now in the process of creating a College Partnership that would encourage greater interaction between those Environmental Clubs and institutions of higher education. How that will be accomplished will be the topic of the next Coalition meeting, set for this Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center. Members of a Coalition subcommittee and Brian Black of Penn State Altoona will attend the meeting and anyone interested in learning more about the partnership project is welcome to attend as well. For more information, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.

“Business After Hours” Set for Thursday at Iron Masters
The next Chamber “Business After Hours” will be held this Thursday, May 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Iron Masters Country Club, 174 Cross Cove Road, Roaring Spring. Iron Masters has been serving golfers of Blair and Bedford Counties since 1962. Enjoy an evening of networking, food and beverage. Visit the newly remodeled Legends Golf Shop, Lefty’s Lounge and the Restaurant. Cost to attend Business After Hours is $6.00 for Chamber Members in advance and $7.00 at the door.  Non-members may attend for $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.  To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Non-Profits to Gain Insight on Key Federal Legislation
With Congress taking aim at businesses that gain tax advantages from contributing to non-profit or charitable organizations, The Chamber’s Community Benefit Coalition of Non-Profits has put a high priority on educating Chamber members on what that legislation might mean to the long-term survival of those organizations.  What’s the real story? The Coalition will learn the latest at this Friday’s meeting, set for 8:15 a.m. at the Devorris Center. Attorney Dan Renberg, an attorney from Washington, D.C. will present, "Preserving the Charitable Tax Deduction and Life (for Non-Profits) in a Post-Sequestration World." Dan is a former Legislative Director to the late Arlen Specter and is considered an expert on non-profit law. His presentation to The Chamber is the result of a request from Congressman Bill Shuster. Any Chamber member who would like to attend the meeting, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.
