Executive Committee Approves Four New Members
The Executive Committee of the Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors approved the following new members at its meeting last Tuesday: Bennetti Tree Service of Altoona, Blair County Republican Women, Circuit Mortgage of Hollidaysburg and The Von Villano Agency of Altoona.

Meeting Set for Today to Begin Career Fair Planning
Representatives from The Chamber’s BASICS program will meet today with members of Blair County’s six Rotary Clubs to begin the planning process for an annual Career Fair that is scheduled to begin during the 2013-14 academic year. The event will involve sophomore students at all Blair County schools. “We’re looking forward to setting the framework for an event that will help our county’s tenth graders to gain valuable insight into the many careers that are available in their own backyard,” explained Chamber President Joe Hurd.  “Having the Rotary Clubs partner with BASICS on the planning and implementation involved with making this happen practically guarantees its success.” For more information on the Career Fair, contact Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.

Chamber Has Opening for VP Position
The Chamber has an opening for the position of Vice-President of Membership Services & Development. The position oversees the Growth and Relationships of Young Professionals (GRYP) program, staffs the Safety Committee and the Small Business Partners and is responsible for coordinating the sales and event sponsorship arm of The Chamber. The VP also contributes as a writer for the Blair Business Mirror and takes part in the orientation of new members. To apply, email a resume and cover letter to Joe Hurd at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Shuster to Converse with Chamber’s Transportation Committee
Congressman Bill Shuster will participate in a conference call with members of The Chamber’s Transportation Committee on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. The Congressman will provide an update to the committee on current federal issues related to transportation and discuss how the committee may take a more active role in helping to move key legislation forward. For more information on the Transportation Committee, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.

GRYP Networking Event Slated for Hollidaysburg
The next Growth and Relationships of Young Professionals (GRYP) networking event will be held this Thursday, June 27th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Downtown Hollidaysburg as part of the Hollidaysburg Community Partnership’s Downtown Concert Series. GRYP will have a booth at the concert and members can have free pizza. Beverages are on your own. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Foundation Receives Approval for EITC Program
The Blair County Chamber Foundation received notification on June 10th that it has once again been approved to collect contributions through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program for fiscal year 2013-14.  The Foundation helps to fund The Chamber’s BASICS program which includes Leadership Blair County Youth. Anyone interested in learning more about the program is asked to contact Cindy Cessna at 943-8151 or email her.

Chamber to Partner on Health Care Reform Seminar
The Blair County Chamber has agreed to partner with Forney Financial Solutions of Altoona on a seminar which outlines the potential perils of Obamacare. The seminar entitled, “Financial Impact of Health Care Reform & Evidence Based Negotiation Strategies,” will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center. Speakers are Russell Livingston and Jerry Bonenberger from Babb, Inc. and Attorney Albert Lee from Tucker Arensberg Attorneys. There is no cost to Blair County Chamber members to attend this seminar. “We appreciate Forney Financial’s overture to us to partner on this significant event,” explained Chamber President Joe Hurd. “As often as possible we will enter into partnership arrangements with our members if there is a tangible benefit to the rest of the membership. This is clearly an opportunity that’s too good to pass-up.” To register for the seminar, call Joyce Wagner at 944-8474, Ext. 305 or email her at jwagner@forneyfs.com.

Does Your Business Support the National Guard and Reserve?
