China Trip Meeting is Tonight at the Devorris Center
Leo Liu, President of Citslinc, Inc., will be the guest presenter tonight at the Devorris Center for Business Development as the Blair County Chamber begins the educational phase of its next China trip. This will be the third trip to China in the past four years and the cost is still a ridiculously low $2,399 pp/dou.occ., which includes all flights, meals and 5-star hotels. If you would like to learn more about the trip, feel free to stop-in. The presentation begins at 6:00 p.m.

Donation Phase of “Basket of Hope” Project Kick-off Tomorrow
For the third consecutive year, the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Blair County Alumni will be accepting donations of common household goods to be given to women and families through Family Services’ Emergency Shelter and Domestic Abuse Project. Items can be donated as an individual or an office, with a group of neighbors or with a faith group. Donate just one item or fill an entire laundry basket. Items can be new or gently used. Donations can be dropped-off at the Blair County Chamber of Commerce, located at 3900 Industrial Park Drive in Altoona. Donations will be accepted August 27-30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For a list of suggested items to fill a laundry basket, click here.

Chamber Ambassadors to Cut Ribbon at United Datacom Networks

At the door, members pay $7.00 and non-members pay $15.00. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Coalition of Non-Profits to Hear Obamacare Presentation
Members of The Chamber’s Community Benefit Coalition of Non-Profits were asked at a recent meeting to identify a topic for the Coalition’s next Best Practices Forum. They overwhelmingly chose the Affordable Care Act. “There’s a lot of talk about that legislation in a variety of circles,” related Coalition Chair Judy Rosser.  “But we don’t hear much about how it will likely affect the non-profit world. It’s time we found out.”  This Friday, August 30th, the Coalition will welcome a trio of presenters representing Preferred Benefit Specialists who will present, “The Mis-direction of Healthcare: A Pivotal Moment for Non-Profits in the Healthcare Marketplace.” The program will address the latest regulatory guidelines from Washington on the ACA; the impact of ACA on non-profits; strategies to contain cost and improve healthcare; and attraction and retention of employees in the new healthcare environment. Presenters will be Brian Brumbaugh of Preferred Benefits Specialists, Patrick Reilly of Empower3 Center for Health, and Patrick Fiore, CPA of Fiore Fedeli Snyder Carothers, LLP. The Best Practices Forum will be held at the Devorris Center for Business Development beginning at 8:15 a.m. and concluding at 9:30. There is no charge for any employees of non-profits who are Blair County Chamber members. Non-members may attend for $20 each. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151.

Chamber Seeking Fall Intern
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is seeking an intern for the Fall Semester. The intern should be majoring in Business Management, Marketing or Communications. The internship can be either for credit or personal enrichment. Interested students should contact Linda Stotler at 943-8151.

Would You Like to Be a U.S. Chamber Member – Free?
The Blair County Chamber has accepted an invitation to be part of the United States Chamber of Commerce Federation Program which would provide a free membership to any of our members that fit the program criteria. That criteria is that businesses must have total annual revenue of less than $10 million, cannot be a charity, non-profit organization, government entity or religious/educational institution or be a current, paying U.S. Chamber member. The Chamber will register all members that meet those guidelines unless the member indicates that they do not wish to participate in the Federation Program. To opt-out, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Southern Alleghenies to Hold Business Resource Expo
On September 5th, the Southern Alleghenies Business Resource Network, in cooperation with The Chamber, will hold “The Alleghenies Business Resource Expo” from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center. This event provides ample opportunity for businesses of all sizes to meet one-on-one with a network of non-profit organizations that can assist in growing or maintaining a business. There is no cost to attend. To register, call (855) 661-0094 or email saprep@sapdc.org.
