Chamber Board Approves Eleven New Members
At last Wednesday’s Board of Directors meeting, eleven new members were approved by the Chamber Board.  Those new members are: ADR Solutions of Duncansville, AnswerLinks, Inc. of Hollidaysburg, Ayers Line Construction of Williamsburg, Michelle Barnes Optometry of Altoona, Brouse Wellness Chiropractic of Duncansville, Interaction Dynamics Group of Hollidaysburg, Medical Staffing Neetwork of Altoona, Sun Air Express Airlines of Fort Lauderdale, Walton Heights Townhomes and Apartments of Altoona, Warner’s Landscaping of Altoona and Williams Moving & Storage of Pleasant Gap.

GRYP Gets a New Name
The former Growth and Relationships of Young Professionals (GRYP) will have a new name as part of the re-branding of that Chamber program. The Chamber’s Board of Directors unanimously approved “Young Professionals of Blair County” to be that new name. The re-branding process will continue with the development of a new logo and the formation of a steering committee. “Business After Hours” is Thursday at United Datacom Networks
The next Chamber “Business After Hours” will be held this Thursday, February 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at United Datacom Networks, located at 2032 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Suite 7 in Altoona (specifically the Martins Plaza in Bellmeade). The cost to attend for Chamber Members is $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door.  Non-members may attend for $12 pre-registered and $15 at the door. Business Excellence Award Nomination Deadline is Friday
The fourteenth recipient of the Blair County Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence will be honored at the Business Excellence Dinner on June 15th.  Who that recipient is will be largely determined from nominations received from within the Chamber membership. The deadline to submit a nomination is this Friday, February 27th. Nomination forms are available by calling The Chamber at 943-8151 or can be downloaded by clicking herePrevious recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award are: Ernie Wissinger (2002), G. Do You Need Help to Start/Manage Your Safety Committee?
Learn ways to manage an effective safety committee in your organization at the next Blair County Chamber of Commerce safety program set for this Friday, February 27th from 7:30-9:30 a.m., at Hoss’s in Duncansville.  The program will be presented by Barbara Hoover, workers compensation specialist at Teeter Group and Caleb Moses, environmental, health and safety director at Curry Supply Company. When managed successfully, a safety committee can be the best resource for a business to reduce workplace injuries, increase safety awareness among employees and provide a safe work environment. Join a best practices discussion on organizing an effective safety committee, managing a centralized committee for multiple locations and getting your committee certified in the State of PA.  The cost to attend the Safety Program is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. Only Ten Exhibitor Booths Remain Unsold for Home & Garden Show
The Annual Blair County Home & Garden Show will be held on March 6-8, 2015 at The Jaffa Shrine and only ten exhibitor booths remain unsold. Show sponsors for the show have already been determined. Sign-Ups Begin for Chamber’s “Five Rivers” Cruise
The Blair County Chamber is heading to Europe in late Fall for its first-ever river cruise. The cruise is being done in cooperation with Heritage Adventures Travel Agency. The special wine-themed “5-River European Cruise” will depart from the Chamber Office in the Devorris Center for Business Development on November 3rd, will fly from Dulles International Airport for an overnight flight to Prague and will return on November 13th from Paris. The trip will include one-night sightseeing stays at 5-star hotels in both Prague and Paris with the river cruise in-between. The Chamber trip will feature excursions on the Vistava, Main, Rhine, Moselle and Seine rivers via Avalon Waterways “Visionary,” considered the finest river vessel in Europe. The Visionary accommodates just 128 guests. Brochures on the 5-River European Cruise are available at the Chamber Office and at Heritage Adventures Travel Agency. 

Chamber Foundation President Granted a Leave of Absence
Tim Nagle of CNB Bank has been granted a leave of absence from his position as president of the Blair County Chamber Foundation. Rodney Green, who had been vice-president, will be interim president during Nagle’s absence. Congratulations . . .
. . . to Lisa Michelone of Reliance Bank who was recently appointed chair of the Business Hall of Fame Committee by the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Michelone replaces John Palko of Amtran who recently retired.
. . . to Lou Kanzleiter of Logan Valley Mall who was approved by the Chamber Board of Directors to serve on the board of the Blair County Chamber Foundation. Kanzleiter replaces Maureen Calandra of Saint Francis University who resigned her board position.
