Chamber Board Meets to Bid Adieu to Departing Members
The Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors will meet on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. The meeting will be the final one for three members who have completed their terms on the board. The three are: Doug Mingle of Roaring Spring Department Store, Jack Collins of Link Computer Corporation, and Mike Sweitzer of Chicago Rivet & Machine Company. “We’re sorry to lose these excellent board members,” acknowledged Board Chair Carol Gensimore. “They’ve made considerable impact on the organization in some many important ways.” Anyone who would like to address the Chamber Board at Thursday’s meeting should contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 by noon on Tuesday.

Annual Meeting Award Nominations Being Accepted
When an organization like the Blair County Chamber accomplishes as much as it does during the course of a year, there are undoubtedly a lot of people that make that happen. Between now and January 4th, Chamber members have an opportunity to nominate those deserving recipients for a variety of awards that will be presented at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting & Award Presentation on January 29th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Those awards are: the Athena Award, sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank; the Donna D. Gority Servant Leader Award, sponsored by Reliance Bank; the George Award, sponsored by Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries; the Joseph P. Rosenhamer Chamber Spirit Award, sponsored by P. Joseph Lehman, Inc. and Small Business Person of the Year, sponsored by First National Bank. As in past years, the award recipients will not be announced prior to the event so that honorees can be surprised. Members can access nomination forms either by calling The Chamber at 943-8151 or click here. There are also excellent sponsorship opportunities available for the Annual Meeting itself. Call Jessie Covert at 943-8151 or email her at jcovert@blairchamber.com. The cost to attend the Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation, which begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends by 9:30 is $23/person.  Call The Chamber to register or register online.

Sapphire9 to Host Thursday’s “Business After Hours”
The Chamber's December Business After Hours will be held this Thursday, December 17th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Sapphire9, located at 225 Allegheny Street, Hollidaysburg. Enjoy an evening of networking. Cost to attend is $6 for Chamber Members pre-registered and $12 for Non-Members pre-registered. Call The Chamber today to make a reservation or register online.

Deadline to Register for Chamber’s China Trip is Tuesday
If you are planning to travel to China with the Blair County Chamber in 2016, you need to do so by Tuesday.  On that day, all payment for the trip needs to be at the Blair County Chamber Office by 4:30 p.m. The nine-day excursion will take place from April 7-16, 2016 and will once again be conducted through Citslinc. The price remains incredible at $2199 (including flights, meals and all accommodations at 5-star hotels.) The only significant change from the three previous Chamber trips is that the flight originates at Dulles Airport instead of JFK – a real plus to local travelers. Travel to Dulles from Altoona and back is included as part of the trip. For more information, call The Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Registration Continues for Chamber Trip to Germany
If an April trip to China doesn’t satisfy your travel needs, have we got a deal for you! From September 18-29, the Blair County Chamber and Classic Travel will offer a 12-day, fully escorted trip to Germany. The trip covers Germany’s most famous cities, includes a day cruise on the Rhine River and also takes place during Oktoberfest.  For further information, call The Chamber at 943-8151.

Chamber Signs-on to Letter to the Governor, General Assembly
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce, as a member of CompetePA, has signed-on to a letter to Governor Tom Wolf and members of the PA General Assembly encouraging them not to impose a statewide business privilege tax, an incorporation filing tax or any other similar punitive tax on the business community. “It is already extremely difficult to recruit businesses to the Commonwealth without adding to the problem by creating more reasons to avoid us,” explained Chamber President Joe Hurd.  Pennsylvania currently ranks 46th out of 50 states in the Tax Foundation’s annual index that rates states from lowest to highest in overall taxation. “As you can see,” Hurd noted, “we’re already one of the worst.”

Is Your Information Still Accurate?
