Chamber Office Closed for Martin Luther King Holiday
The Blair County Chamber Office will be closed on Monday in recognition of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. The office will re-open on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. To access Chamber information or to register for a program or event, visit the Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com.
Executive Roundtable to Hear Good News, Bad News
Each January, The Chamber’s Executive Roundtable focuses on how the local business community fared during the previous year and what the expectations are for the coming year. Each Roundtable member is provided two minutes to talk about his/her business as a way to determine trends that could prove valuable or damaging to the local economy. Donald Devorris is chair of the Executive Roundtable.
Foundation Board to Welcome New Members, Set Goals
At Wednesday’s meeting of the Blair County Chamber Foundation Board, the board will welcome Brian Irwin of Irwin Financial and Attorney Chris Michelone as new board members. The Foundation will also set contribution goals for 2016. Chamber Board to Meet Thursday
The Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors will meet on Thursday beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Devorris Center. The Board will welcome new board members: John Beyer II, Richard Fiore, Jr., Todd Lewis and Amy Mearkle. To address the Board, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 by noon on Tuesday.
Annual Meeting Less Than Two Weeks Away
The Blair County Chamber’s Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation will be held on Friday, January 29th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The Annual Meeting features the conferring of several individual awards. Those awards are: the Athena Award, sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank; the Donna D. Gority Servant Leader Award, sponsored by Reliance Bank; the George Award, sponsored by Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries; the Joseph P. Rosenhamer Chamber Spirit Award, sponsored by P. Joseph Lehman, Inc. and Small Business Person of the Year, sponsored by First National Bank. The cost to attend the Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation, which begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends by 9:30, is $23/person. Call The Chamber to register at 943-8151 or register online.
“Power Cards” Ready for Pick-Up
The Blair County Chamber’s new “Power Card” is generating an incredible amount of enthusiasm within the Chamber Membership and outside it as well. The biggest challenge: Getting the Power Cards to Chamber members. “We’re trying to avoid the cost of mailing them,” acknowledged Jessie Covert, The Chamber’s Vice-President of Sales & Membership Development. “So we’re hoping that our members are willing to stop-in to the office to pick them up. Otherwise, we’ll hope to get some of our committee volunteers to deliver them. Mailing is our last option.” Any Chamber-Member business willing to pick up their Power Cards can do so on Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Young Professionals to Hold Networking Event at Zach’s
The Young Professionals of Blair County will hold a Happy Hour this Wednesday, January 20th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Zach’s Sports and Spirits in Altoona. The cost to attend is $5.00/person and includes light snacks and a cash bar. Register by calling The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Payment can be made to The Chamber in advance or at the door. No one will be billed.
Safety Program to Identify Effective Recognition Techniques
The Blair County Chamber’s Safety Committee will hold an educational program this Friday, January 22nd from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s in Duncansville. The program is entitled, “Recognition: See It – Say It,” and focuses on effective recognition strategies directed to employees who provide exceptional safety in the workplace. The program’s speaker will be Tom Churbock of HSE Solutions, LLC. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A buffet breakfast is included. Booths Available for 2016 Blair County Home & Garden ShowThe Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Blair Bedford Builders Association are accepting vendor booth reservations for the 46th annual Blair County Home & Garden Show to be held March 4, 5 & 6, 2016 at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. Exhibitor booth space is now open for home and garden-related businesses interested in showcasing their products or services. The show is also accepting vendor applications for the Home Treasures room. Home Treasures offers a boutique-style setting that features home interior items, candles, spices, hand-crafted items, and much more.
