Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for January
The Blair County Chamber’s ability to offer quality programming, events, recognition and advocacy efforts depends largely on the willingness of sponsors to step up to help underwrite the costs associated those efforts.  So at the end of each month, we publish a list of businesses or individuals who sponsored anything Chamber-related during the month.  They have helped us to make a difference in the business community.  January’s All-Stars are: Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, Altoona-Blair County Airport, ABCD Corporation, Altoona Grand Hotel, Altoona Lung Specialists, Altoona Mirror, American Eagle Paper Mills, Ameriserv Bank, Blair Companies, Fanelli Willet Law Offices, First Commonwealth Bank, First National Bank of Pennsylvania, Golden Living Center – Hillview, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Keller Engineers, MacInnis Group, LLC, M&T Bank, New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company, P. Joseph Lehman, Inc, Penn State Altoona, Reliance Bank, Roberts Oxygen Company, S&T Bank, Saint Francis University, Sheetz, Inc., Stuckey Ford & Stuckey Subaru, UPMC Altoona, Value Drug Company, and YOBCO.

U.S. Chamber Manager to Speak at February “Breakfast Club”
Despite a host of legislative accomplishments at the federal level in 2015, the business community will face some tough challenges in 2016 and must be prepared to address those challenges in a variety of effective ways. That will be the crux of the message delivered at the next Blair County Chamber “Breakfast Club” by Kevin Courtois, Manager of the Great Lakes Regional Office of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  That event will be held on February 11th beginning at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Courtois’ presentation, entitled, “2016 Federal Update: Issues Impacting Businesses,” will focus on legislation and Presidential mandates that will likely continue attacks on employers, still reeling from previous governmental interference. He will also address the importance of business community involvement in advocacy efforts and will provide examples of advocacy programs that have yielded positive results. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members.  To register, contact The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the February Breakfast Club is Joshua House.

Representative Ward to speak at WE-LEaD Lunch ‘n’ Learn
Representative Judy Ward of the 80th Legislative District will be the keynote speaker at the WE-LEaD “Lunch ‘n’ Learn” program, set for February 25th from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Park Hills Golf Club. WE-LEaD, Women Encouraging – Leadership Education and Development, is a program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce. The title of Ward’s presentation will be, “Breaking Ground: An Open Discussion on the Reality of Women in Politics.” She will discuss her experience in her first year in office, the realities of the job, the level of acceptance by her colleagues and the challenges of balancing family life with work. The cost to attend Lunch ‘n’ Learn is $25 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members. The cost includes lunch. To register, contact The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the Lunch ‘n’ Learn is Seltzer Financial Strategies.

Have You Picked-Up Your “Power Cards” Yet?
The Blair County Chamber’s new “Power Card” is generating an incredible amount of enthusiasm within the Chamber Membership and outside it as well. The biggest challenge: Getting the Power Cards to Chamber members. “We’re trying to avoid the cost of mailing them,” acknowledged Jessie Covert, The Chamber’s Vice-President of Sales & Membership Development. “So we’re hoping that our members are willing to stop-in to the office to pick them up. Otherwise, we’ll hope to get some of our committee volunteers to deliver them. Mailing is our last option.” Any Chamber-Member business willing to pick up their Power Cards can do so on Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Limited Booth Space Available for 2016 Blair County Home & Garden Show
