Chamber Golf Classic Sold Out
The Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Chamber Golf Classic is officially sold out. The Classic will be held today, May 9th at Iron Masters Country Club with a lunch/registration at 11:00 and tee off at Noon. 

Judge Kopriva to address Chamber Breakfast Club
Judge Jolene Kopriva will be the keynote speaker at this Thursday’s Chamber Breakfast Club, set for The Casino at Lakemont Park beginning at 7:45 a.m. The May Breakfast Club traditionally directs attention to the important relationship that needs to exist between the business and education communities for Blair County’s economy to be positively impacted. Judge Kopriva’s presentation will focus on the importance of school attendance as a precursor to good workplace attendance later on. Besides Kopriva’s presentation, the Breakfast Club will also include two sets of awards given through the Chamber’s BASICS program. Eighth grade students from four Blair County schools will receive certificates and gift cards for outstanding essays related to the BASICS Career Fair. High school seniors from nine schools will get similar awards for outstanding attendance. The cost of attending the Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Leadership Blair County Youth Class to Graduate Wednesday
The 13th class of the Chamber’s Leadership Blair County Youth program will graduate Wednesday, May 11th, during ceremonies beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Port Sky Café at Penn State Altoona.  Twenty-three high school sophomores from six Blair County schools comprise this year’s class. The LBC Youth graduation ceremony will include a session-by-session overview, courtesy of the class members, a presentation of two grants funded by the class itself, and conferral of plaques to the graduates. The LBC selection committee will meet immediately follow the graduation ceremony to select the 2017 Class.  (For more information on the LBC Youth program, contact Judy Juda at 943-8151 or email her at jjuda@blairchamber.com.) 
 

Jethro’s to Host Young Professionals of Blair County Networking Event
The Chamber's Young Professionals of Blair County will be having a networking event this Wednesday, May 11th  from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Jethro's. Cost to attend is $5.00 pre-registered and $7.00 at the door. To make reservations call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

“Business Before Hours” Scheduled for Friday at SVDP
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will host the next Chamber “Business Before Hours” this Friday, May 13th from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the SVDP Thrift Shop, located at 1215 Seventh Avenue in Altoona. The Society is an international Catholic lay organization which offers women and men the opportunity for spiritual formation through person-to-person service to the poor and needy. The Society was re-organized in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese in 1981 and continues today with 21 parish conferences, eight Thrift Stores, five food pantries, two food distribution warehouses, a Youth Ministry program, two family kitchens and a car distribution program. The Business Before Hours will include information about the Society and a tour of the Thrift Shop. Breakfast items from Panera Bread will be available. There is no cost to attend Business Before Hours for Chamber members. Non-members may attend for $10/person. Registration is recommended by calling the Chamber at 943-8151 or registering online.
 

Informational Meeting Set for Chamber’s Costa Rica Trip 
The Blair County Chamber’s Costa Rica Trip, from October 17-25, is a great opportunity to experience both the beach and the rain forest of that exotic Central American country. The cost is just $2,899 (double). That cost includes ground transportation to and from the airport, round-trip air, air taxes and fees/surcharges, hotel transfers, 13 meals and a variety of tours. There is also an array of optional tours and a 4-day, 3-night Jungle Adventure Post Tour Extension. An informational meeting on the trip will be held on May 31st at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Chamber at 943-8151. The Chamber is partnering with Classic Travel and Collette on this trip. Safety Program to Focus on Trucking
The next Chamber Safety Program has been set for Friday, May 20th from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. at Hoss's Steak and Sea House in Duncansville.  The topic will be "Share the Road". The presenter is Joe Drugo, Senior Safety Training for Ward Trucking. Attendees will learn about the no-zone that all trucks have, limitations of trucks, seven safety tips we can all live by and will have the opportunity to sit in a tractor to see the no-zone first hand. Cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. Breakfast is included. To make reservations, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Power Card Offers: They’re Changing Every Day
The Chamber’s Power Card is now in the hands of nearly 30,000 Chamber members and the discounted offers are changing every day.  If you haven’t checked the Power Card list in awhile, you might want to do so.  Some great offers have been added since you last looked.  And if you’re a Chamber member who still hasn’t received your Power Card, call us at 943-8151 and we’ll arrange to get a card to you.

Business Excellence Dinner Sponsorships Available
Marty Marasco, the President/CEO of Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation, will be the 15th recipient of the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence. The award will be presented at the Annual Business Excellence Dinner on June 13th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Sponsorships for the dinner can be secured by calling Jessie Covert at the Chamber Office or by emailing her at jcovert@blairchamber.com.
