Chamber to Endorse Additional Passenger Train Service
The Board of Directors of the Blair County Chamber has approved a request by its Transportation Committee to submit a letter to Governor Tom Wolf, encouraging the governor and the state legislature to add two additional rail passenger lines to the mainline corridor between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. This effort is being spearheaded by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. As one of the main passenger stops along the current AMTRAK route, the City of Altoona would recognize considerable benefits in terms of convenience and flexibility. For more information on the Transportation Committee, contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Four New Members Added to the Chamber Rolls
At its May 19th meeting, the Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors approved the following new members: Bedford Candies of Altoona, Craig Fencing of Altoona, Michaella Elizabeth Marketing of Schellsburg and Verizon Wireless of Warrendale. The Chamber’s membership now stands at 1,056.

Blair County Retail to Meet Wednesday
Blair County Retail, a program of the Blair County Chamber, will hold its first key issues meeting on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. The meeting will encourage dialogue from local retailers on better ways to promote retail, ways to gain greater interaction among retailers and strategies aimed at employee recruitment and retention. Any Blair County retailer is welcome to attend. The meeting will last no longer than one hour. Neal Waldron of Home Depot chairs the committee.

Informational Meeting Set for Chamber’s Costa Rica Trip
The Blair County Chamber’s Costa Rica Trip, from October 17-25, is a great opportunity to experience both the beach and the rain forest of that exotic Central American country. The cost is just $2,899 (double). That cost includes ground transportation to and from the airport, round-trip air, air taxes and fees/surcharges, hotel transfers, 13 meals and a variety of tours. There is also an array of optional tours and a 4-day, 3-night Jungle Adventure Post Tour Extension. An informational meeting on the trip will be held on May 31st at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Chamber at 943-8151. The Chamber is partnering with Classic Travel and Collette on this trip. To book the Costa Rica trip or for more information, call Classic Travel at (814) 696-3558.
