First Leadership Youth Session Looks at History/Heritage/Arts
The Chamber’s Leadership Blair County Youth class will have its first session on Wednesday beginning at 8:10 a.m. The session will focus on “History/Heritage/Arts” and will include tours of Baker Mansion, Mishler Theatre, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and Gospel Hill.  The class will also have a review of public speaking and group dynamics and will begin discussions on “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.” For more information on LBC Youth, contact Judy Juda at 943-8151 or email her at jjuda@blairchamber.com.

Hampton Inn to Host Next “Business Before Hours”
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce will hold its next Business Before Hours this Friday, September 16, from 7:30-9:00 a.m., at Hampton Inn Altoona, located at 180 Charlotte Drive.  Business Before Hours is an event to enable networking before you head to the office.  There is no cost to attend for Chamber Members. Non-members may attend at $10 per person.  Breakfast is included. To make reservations, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Penn State Athletic Director to Speak at WE-LEaD Workshop
The Chamber's WE-LEaD Committee will present a workshop featuring Sandy Barbour, director of athletics for Pennsylvania State University. Barbour’s presentation, “Breaking Barriers: Inspiring Ways to Write Your Own Playbook”, will tell the compelling story of dedication and tenacity that paved the way for Barbour to become one of the nation’s most highly-respected athletic directors. The event will take place from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Thursday., September 28, at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Corporate sponsors for the event are: Blair Companies, Penn State Altoona, Reliance Bank, Salon Professional Academy and Seltzer Financial Strategies. Safety Program to Focus on Responsibility
The Blair County Chamber’s next Safety Program will feature a presentation that will focus on employee’s personal responsibility for safety and how front-line managers and supervisors must set a standard for a safe work environment. The program will be held on September 28th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. Keynote speaker Tony Samento will present, “Taking Responsibility for Safety.” Samento is president of Samento Industrial Training Systems in Mechanicsburg. He has provided training to more than 180,000 employees across the United States. The cost to attend the program is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A breakfast buffet is included. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
 

Young Professionals Seeking Businesses to Help With Outreach Program
The Chamber’s Young Professionals of Blair County is holding a food drive for the Mountain Lion Backpack Program during the month of October and is seeking businesses willing to host a drop box for people to drop-off contributions. The boxes will be delivered to each host site on September 30th and will be picked-up on October 31st. Items being collected are granola bars, ramen noodles, oatmeal packs and cereal.  Interested businesses should contact Richard Cox at (814) 577-6196 or email to richard@overflow.org. Deadline to respond is September 16th.

October “Breakfast Club” Pays Tribute to Farm-City Month
The next Chamber Breakfast Club will be held on October 13th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Since October is “Farm-City Month,” the keynote speaker at the event will be Dave Hileman of Hilecrest Angus who will be talking about the importance of securing our agricultural future by educating our young people. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the October Breakfast Club is AgChoice Farm Credit.

Chamber Schedules Trips for 2017
The Blair County Chamber will continue its travel program with two exciting trips in 2017. The first trip will be a “Canyons and Casinos” which will depart on June 16th and return on the 24th. That 8-night trip will begin with a flight to Phoenix, will include a number of guided motor coach tours and will conclude with two days in Las Vegas prior to flying home. The trip is the Chamber’s way to recognize the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. An informational meeting on this trip will be held on September 21st at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Anyone wishing to attend should contact the Chamber at 943-8151. This trip is being done in partnership with Heritage Travel and Globus. The second Chamber trip, set for September 15-24, 2017 will be “The Best of Spain.” The trip will include six cities, including Madrid and Barcelona. The Chamber is partnering with Epic Journeys on this trip. An informational meeting will be held on November 29th to provide information on this trip.
