Chamber Office Closed on Columbus Day
The Blair County Chamber Office will be closed on Monday in recognition of Columbus Day. The office will re-open on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. To access Chamber information or to register for a program or event, visit the Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com.

Blair Business Mirror Published Tomorrow
The October issue of the Blair Business Mirror will be published tomorrow as a supplement to the Altoona Mirror. Since October is Farm-City Month, the cover story of this edition will focus on 4-H in Blair County and its impact on promoting agriculture in the area.  Among the other feature stories are a Q&A with Joel Wineland of West Central Equipment and a column by Tim Salony on the challenges facing Blair County’s libraries. If you’re not able to get a copy of the Blair Business Mirror, don’t despair. A copy of the publication is mailed to all Chamber-member businesses.
 

October “Breakfast Club” Pays Tribute to Farm-City Month
The next Chamber Breakfast Club will be held this Thursday, October 13th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Since October is “Farm-City Month,” the keynote speaker at the event will be Dave Hileman of Hilecrest Angus who will be talking about the importance of securing our agricultural future by educating our young people. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the October Breakfast Club is AgChoice Farm Credit.

Small Business Partners to Hold Speed Networking This Wednesday
The Chamber’s Small Business Partners Committee will hold a Speed Networking event on October 12th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 8:00. The cost to attend is $10 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber to Help Celebrate Opening of Bedford Candies
Join the Blair County Chamber of Commerce at a Joint Celebration Grand Opening (with Bedford Chamber) for Bedford Candies, located in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center this Thursday, October 13th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. There is no charge for Blair County Chamber Members, however registration is required. To make a reservation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

LBC Alumni Program to Focus on Social Media Policies
The Leadership Blair County Alumni will host a workshop on Tuesday, October 18th from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. at the Park Hills Golf Club. The presenter is Aaron Packer, Co-Owner/CTO of Social Media Connections. The presentation will address the steps needed to take for organizations to create social media policies that promote ethical and safe online environments. A full breakfast buffet is included.  The cost to attend is $18 for LBC Alumni Members, $20 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members. To make a reservation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Partnering With HRMA on Injured Employees Workshop
The next Chamber Safety Program will be jointly sponsored with the Human Resource Management Association of Blair County and will take place on Wednesday, October 19th from 7:45 a.m. - 10:00. The workshop will be held in the Soho Room at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Presenters will be Attorneys Michael Routch and Michael Wagner. The workshop is entitled "Practical Tips to Managing the Injured Employee in the Workplace." Among the topics for discussion will be Workplace Responsibilities to Injured Workers, Addressing Limitations in the Workplace, Employee Discipline/Termination, Accommodations, Recurrence of Disability and Settlements. Cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. New Enterprise Stone & Lime to Host “Visit to Industry”
The Blair County Chamber’s “Visit to Industry” will be held on October 20th from 10:00 a.m. – Noon at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company’s Roaring Spring Quarry. Attendees will meet at the Annex Building, 127 NESL Drive, Roaring Spring and board a charter bus which will take everyone to the quarry for the tour. Following the tour, everyone will be taken back to the Annex for lunch. Attendees will be required to sign a waiver before beginning the tour and each person will be provided a hard hat to wear while on the tour. There is no cost for Chamber members to attend Visit to Industry but registration is required since only 45 people can be accommodated. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151. Visit to Industry is a program of the Chamber’s Farm-City Committee and is offered annually during Farm-City Month.

Reservations Being Accepted for Business Hall of Fame Dinner
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting reservations for its 2016 Business Hall of Fame and Awards of Distinction dinner.  The event will be held Monday, October. 24th, at the Blair County Convention Center. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 6:45. Reservations are $65 per person and include the reception and awards dinner. Reservations must be made on or before Friday, October 14th. Tickets Available For the Annual Farm-City Dinner
Tickets are now available for the Chamber's Annual Farm-City Dinner to be held on Tuesday, November 1 at the Freedom Township Fire Hall. Cost per ticket is $20.00 and includes a family-style turkey with all the fixings. Help us honor Jean Sollenberger with the 2016 ACE Award. Guest Speaker will be Richard Roush, Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State University. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with a milk/punch reception and the dinner/program being at 7:00. To secure your tickets, call the Chamber at 814-943-8151 or register online.
