LBC Alumni Program to Focus on Social Media Policies
The Leadership Blair County Alumni will host a workshop tomorrow, October 18th from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. at the Park Hills Golf Club. The presenter is Aaron Packer, Co-Owner/CTO of Social Media Connections. The presentation will address the steps needed to take for organizations to create social media policies that promote ethical and safe online environments. A full breakfast buffet is included. The cost to attend is $18 for LBC Alumni Members, $20 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members. To make a reservation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Partnering With HRMA on Injured Employees Workshop
The next Chamber Safety Program will be jointly sponsored with the Human Resource Management Association of Blair County and will take place this Wednesday, October 19th from 7:45 a.m. - 10:00. The workshop will be held in the Soho Room at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Presenters will be Attorneys Michael Routch and Michael Wagner. The workshop is entitled "Practical Tips to Managing the Injured Employee in the Workplace." Among the topics for discussion will be Workplace Responsibilities to Injured Workers, Addressing Limitations in the Workplace, Employee Discipline/Termination, Accommodations, Recurrence of Disability and Settlements. Holiday Inn Express & Suites to host Business After Hours/Grand Opening Celebration
Holiday Inn Express & Suites, located at 115 Convention Center Drive, Duncansville, will be hosting the October 20th Business After Hours. This will also be the hotel's grand opening. The event will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Enjoy an evening of food, beverage, tours, casino games and networking. Cost to attend is $6 for Chamber Members that pre-register and $12 for non-members that pre-register. Cost for walk-ins is $7 for Chamber Members and $15 for Non-Members. To make a reservation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Foundation Board to Discuss Event With LBC Youth / Sponsors
The Blair County Chamber Foundation Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center. Items of discussion by the Board will include the possibility of holding a luncheon that would bring together the current LBC Youth Class and the group of sponsors who are helping to fund the program. For more information, contact Cindy Cessna at 943-8151 or email her at ccessna@blairchamber.com.

Chamber Board to Discuss Young Professionals’ By-Laws Proposal
The Young Professionals of Blair County, a program of the Chamber, has submitted a request to the Chamber Board that would create separate By-Laws for the program. That request will be discussed with representatives from the Young Professionals group at Thursday’s Board of Directors meeting that will be held at the Devorris Center for Business Development beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Board will also hear a recommendation from its Nominating Subcommittee on 2017 board appointments. For more information or to address the Board, contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 before noon on Tuesday.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime to Host “Visit to Industry”
The Blair County Chamber’s “Visit to Industry” will be held this Thursday, October 20th from 10:00 a.m. – Noon at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company’s Roaring Spring Quarry. Attendees will meet at the Annex Building, 127 NESL Drive, Roaring Spring and board a charter bus which will take everyone to the quarry for the tour. Following the tour, everyone will be taken back to the Annex for lunch. Attendees will be required to sign a waiver before beginning the tour and each person will be provided a hard hat to wear while on the tour. There is no cost for Chamber members to attend Visit to Industry but registration is required since only 45 people can be accommodated. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151. Visit to Industry is a program of the Chamber’s Farm-City Committee and is offered annually during Farm-City Month.

LBC Session to Focus on History, Culture, Heritage
The Leadership Blair County Adult Class will have its first official session this Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Trolley Works in Altoona.  The session will focus on “History, Culture and Heritage” in Blair County and will include off-site excursions to Downtown Altoona, Martinsburg and Tyrone (the class will be split into four groups).  For more information on Leadership Blair County, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or visit the Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com.

Reservation Deadline Passes for Business Hall of Fame Dinner
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is no longer accepting reservations for its 2016 Business Hall of Fame and Awards of Distinction dinner. The event will be held next Monday, October. 24th, at the Blair County Convention Center. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 6:45. For further information, call the Chamber at 943-8151. 

Privilege Pages: A Great Way to Market a Product or Event
As the Holiday Season approaches, one effective and inexpensive way to get the word out about an event, program or product associated with your business or organization is to reserve a Privilege Page. What are Privilege Pages? They are the flyers that are inserted into the mailed copies of the Blair Business Mirror each month. They reach the 1,100 business that are on the Chamber’s mailing list. If you are looking to get the word out to the business community, this is an ideal way.  And the cost is just $125 (plus you provide the 1,100 copies of your flyer). The deadlines to provide the flyers for the next three insertions are: November 4th, December 9th and January 6th. To reserve a space or for more information, call Jessie Covert at 943-8151 or email her at jcovert@blairchamber.com

WE-LEaD Networking Event Scheduled for October 31st
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce WE-LEaD (Women Encouraging – Leadership, Education and Development) program will host a networking event on Monday, Oct. 31st, from 5 - 7 p.m. on the patio at Park Hills Golf Club. The networking event, sponsored by Girls Night Out, will feature hot hors d’oeuvres and beverages. WE-LEaD is an innovative program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce that provides networking and educational programs throughout the year. WE-LEaD focuses on issues that women in business typically face on a daily basis. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members and includes two complimentary beverage tickets. To register, contact The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Tickets Still Available for the Annual Farm-City Dinner
Tickets are still available for the Chamber's Annual Farm-City Dinner to be held on Tuesday, November 1 at the Freedom Township Fire Hall. Cost per ticket is $20.00 and includes a family-style turkey with all the fixings. Help us honor Jean Sollenberger with the 2016 ACE Award. Guest Speaker will be Richard Roush, Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State University. Discount Extended for “Canyons and Casinos” Trip
The Blair County Chamber’s first trip of 2017 will be “Canyons and Casinos” and until November 15th anyone paying a deposit will receive a discount of $313.00. The trip will depart on June 16th and return on the 24th. That 8-night trip will begin with a flight to Phoenix, will include a number of guided motor coach tours and will conclude with two days in Las Vegas prior to flying home. The trip is the Chamber’s way to recognize the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.  Heritage Travel and Globus Family of Brands are partners with the Chamber on the Canyons and Casinos Trip. For more information or to book a reservation, call Heritage Travel at (814) 946-1600.

Date of Operation S.O.S. Pack Night Changed
Operation S.O.S. (Support Our Soldiers) has changed its Pack Night from November 29th to December 6th at 6:00 p.m. at Smith Furniture House of Fashion in Duncansville. Pack Night is when all items to be send to our troops are packed by volunteers for shipping. For more information or to volunteer to help out, contact Gary Clare at (814) 695-5635.
