Chamber Board of Directors Approves Six New Members
The Board of Directors of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday and approved six new members to the organization.  Those new members are: The Groove Fitness Studio, LLC of Altoona; Holiday Pools and Spas of Duncansville; Lezzer Lumber of Hollidaysburg; Mansion Park Barber Shop of Altoona; NHS School of East Freedom and Altoona; and Young Life of Central Pennsylvania.

WE-LEaD Breakfast Workshop on Social Media Set for Tomorrow
Social media continues to be the fastest growing form of promotion and communication, particularly for businesses without huge marketing budgets. To help businesses gain greater awareness of the many options provided through social media outlets, the Blair County Chamber’s WE-LEaD Committee will be hosting a workshop tomorrow, April 25th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Park Hills Golf Club. The workshop is entitled, “Beyond the Surface: Developing a Social Media Plan that Actually Works for Your Business.” It will focus on such topics as: How to use analytics, the do’s and don’ts of social media, when and how to use social media and how to develop social media policies. Guest speakers for the workshop are Emily Evey, Social Media Coordinator and Gage Stewart, Social Media Manager, both from EZ To Use Directories / Ogden Directories. The cost to attend the WE-LEaD workshop is $25 for Chamber Members and $35 for non-members. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.  WE-LEaD – Women Encouraging: Leadership, Education and Development – is a program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.

BASICS/Rotary Career Fair is Wednesday at the Convention Center
This year’s BASICS/Rotary Career Fair will be held this Wednesday, April 26th at the Blair County Convention Center. More than 1,000 high school sophomores from ten area schools will learn about careers from more that 100 business people and educators. A number of businesses, organizations and schools have stepped-up as sponsors.  Premier Sponsors are: AmeriServ Bank, ARC Federal Credit Union, Mount Aloysius College and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College. Gold Sponsors are: Altoona Area High School Foundation, Hollidaysburg Area School District Foundation and Reliance Bank. S&T Bank is a Silver Sponsor and South Hills School of Business & Technology is a Bronze Sponsor.
 

Homewood Retirement Community to Host “Business After Hours”
The next Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held this Wednesday, April 26th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Homewood Retirement Community at Martinsburg, located at 437 Givler Drive, Martinsburg. Homewood at Martinsburg provides services to more than 355 residents. Each resident’s quality of life is the number-one priority whether utilizing independent living, assisted lifestyle services, short-term rehabilitation, respite care, long-term, skilled nursing or memory care services. Recent additions include the Bice Memorial Chapel and Cultural Center. Business After Hours is a networking event featuring food and door prizes. Cost to attend the After Hours is $10 per Chamber Member and $20 per non-member. For more information or to make reservations call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 
“Business Before Hours” is Friday at Lemme Audiology
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce will hold its next Business Before Hours on Friday, April 28th, from 7:30-9:00 a.m., at Lemme Audiology Associates, located at 613 Valley View Blvd., Altoona. There is no cost to attend for Chamber Members. Non-members may attend at $10 per person.  Breakfast is included. To make reservations call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Penn State Altoona to Hold Student Showcase
The Penn State Altoona Student Showcase is this Friday. The Showcase begins at 8:45 a.m. with a welcome followed by presentations throughout the day. A networking lunch will be held at noon in the Heritage Discovery Center. For more information on the event, contact Sue Stevens at (814) 940-3401. The Blair County Chamber is a sponsor of the Penn State Altoona Student Showcase.

Few Spots Remain for Highmark/Chamber Golf Classic
Registration remains open for the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Chamber Golf Classic although only a few spots are still available. The Classic will be held on Monday, May 8th at Iron Masters Country Club with a lunch/registration at 11:00 and tee off at Noon. If you are interested, simply complete the registration form and return to The Chamber. Any questions pertaining to the Golf Classic, please contact Stacy Hoover at The Chamber, 943-8151.
