Chamber Executive Committee Approves Nine New Members
At the July 19th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Blair County Chamber, the following new members were approved: Benefits Network, Inc. of Somerset, Brooklyn Deli of Duncansville, Family Pizza & Pub of Altoona, Global Power Line Academy of Claysburg, JW Design of Duncansville, Rutter’s Farm Store of Duncansville, Talixa Software & Service of Altoona, W.S. Lee & Sons of Altoona, and Woody’s II of Altoona.

Farm-City Committee to Hold “Give-Back Day” This Friday.
For the second consecutive year, the Farm City Committee of the Blair County Chamber will hold a “Give-Back Day” that will take place this Friday, July 28th at Ritchey’s Dairy in Martinsburg. Single scoop ice cream cones  will be available all day  for just one dollar. Allied Milk Producers will again be partnering with the Chamber. Ritchey’s will donate the $1 per cone as well as 25% of all sales that day to provide milk for the American Rescue Workers Food Bank. For further information on this promotion, contact Stacy Hoover at (814) 943-8151 or email her at shoover@blairchamber.com

Chamber Hires Liebal to Oversee Website, Social Media
A former Blair County Chamber intern has returned to the organization as its Vice-President of Website Development and Social Media. Tori Liebal, a graduate of Penn State Altoona, will also staff the Young Professionals of Blair County. Liebal provides the Chamber a more consistent marketing presence for many of the non-traditional ways that chambers promote themselves to their members and their communities. She can be reached at (814) 943-8151 or at tliebal@blairchamber.com

Coalition on Sustainability to Undergo Name Change
Effective immediately, the Blair County Chamber’s Coalition on Sustainability will now be known as “Sustainable Blair County.” The request to change the name was approved on July 19th by the Executive Committee of the Chamber. The committee, which was created by the Chamber nine years ago, assists businesses in finding more environmentally prudent ways to operate and also works with local schools to encourage young people to better understand and appreciate the environment. Chamber Members interested in serving on the Sustainable Blair County Committee should contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Chamber to Initiate New Gift Certificate Program
The Blair County Chamber’s “Buy Here. Live Here.” initiative got a nice shot-in-the-arm from the Chamber Board of Directors with the approval of a new gift certificate program that is designed to keep more retail and hospitality dollars circulating locally. “Buy Here. Live Here. Bucks” will debut later this year and will provide greater opportunities for local consumers to more easily support local businesses. The program will begin recruiting businesses for the list in August. (More information on this program will be made available within the next few weeks.)

Application Process Continues for Young Entrepreneurs Academy
Applications continue to be accepted for the second class of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program. The program will begin in late October. To apply, visit the Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com

Altoona Curve Offers Great Opportunity to Chamber Members
The Altoona Curve has offered members of the Blair County Chamber the opportunity to network while watching the Curve prepare for its next ballgame. On August 1st, Chamber members can be admitted to Peoples Natural Gas Field between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. to watch batting practice and enjoy free food on the Budweiser Party Deck, a cash bar and a grandstand ticket for the Curve’s game with the Erie Seawolves – all for the low price of $4.00/person. Interested Chamber Members should call (814) 283-3122 to reserve your spot.
