State Senator John Eichelberger will be the Chamber’s guest speaker at the next Breakfast Club, set for this Thursday, November 16th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. In keeping with tradition regarding the appearances by elected officials at Breakfast Club, the format will be a Q&A moderated by Cory Gehret, chair of the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee. Questions were determined through submissions from members of the Blair County Chamber. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A full buffet breakfast is included in the cost. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the November Breakfast Club is Stiffler, McGraw & Associates, Inc.

Career Shadowing Week Begins Today
The BASICS Committee of the Blair County Chamber, through its Career Development Subcommittee, will hold Career Shadowing Week from Monday through Friday for high school juniors in seven area schools. Nearly 400 students are expected to visit local businesses to learn more about careers. The Career Shadowing experiences are for a full-day or a half-day. For more information, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Chamber Board to Look at New Guidelines for Committees
The Blair County Chamber is looking for better ways to align its committees and the Chamber Board will get its first look at a set of guidelines that will hopefully make that process easier. Committee Guidelines will be just one agenda item at Thursday’s Board of Directors meeting that will be held at noon at the Devorris Center for Business Development. For more information or to address the Board, contact Joe Hurd by noon on Tuesday at (814) 943-8151.

Businesses Collaborating to Host “Business Before Hours”
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business Before Hours, scheduled for this Friday, November 17th, from 7:30-9:00 a.m., will be co-hosted by Thought iQ, LLC and The Sweet Rolling Pin, LLC. The event will be held at U.S. Hotel, located at 401 S. Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg. There is no cost to attend for Chamber Members. Non-members may attend at $10 per person. Breakfast is included. To make reservations, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Job Board Features Free Listings for Chamber Members
The Blair County Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com features a Job Board where member businesses can place up to three positions at no cost. The Job Board concept came about as the result of a meeting held at the Chamber in which local retailers and employment agencies discussed the trials and tribulations of finding interested and qualified employees. The decision to limit businesses to posting only three positions at one time was a recommendation by the Chamber’s Board of Directors who was concerned that larger businesses with multiple openings would make the task of overseeing the Job Board rather labor intensive. Tori Liebal, the Chamber’s Vice-President of Website Development and Social Media, is the staff member assigned to maintain the Job Board. Jobs will remain on the Board for one month unless the employer asks that they be removed or extended. At the present time, Job Board postings are limited to Chamber Members only.
(For more information on the Job Board, contact Tori Liebal at 814-943-8151 or email her at tliebal@blairchamber.com.)

“Buy Here Bucks” Recruiting Effort Continues
The Blair County Chamber’s new gift certificate program, known as “Buy Here Bucks,” is underway and businesses are being added every day to the list of those where certificates can be redeemed. To register to be on that list (it costs Chamber members nothing), contact Tori Liebal at (814) 943-8151 or email her. To purchase Buy Here Bucks, visit the Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com. You can also get them at the Chamber Office, located in the Devorris Center for Business Development.

Informational Meeting Set for Chamber’s Greece Trip
The Blair County Chamber is offering a trip to Greece during 2018. The trip, which includes a Greek Isle cruise, will leave on July 11th and return on July 20th. An informational meeting will be held on November 20th at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development.  For further information or to register to attend the meeting (no cost or obligation), contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Promotional Items Available for “Shop Small Saturday”
Once again this year, the Chamber will participate in “Shop Small Saturday,” which encourages consumers to follow-up Black Friday with a day of intense shopping at local small businesses. This year, Shop Small Saturday is November 25th. The Chamber has put together bags containing promotional items that are available for the first twenty member-businesses that come to the Chamber Office, located in the Devorris Center for Business Development. Additionally, there are also ten floor mats available on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact Stacy Hoover at (814) 943-8151 or email her at shoover@blairchamber.com.
