Corporate Wellness Challenge Orientation Set for Tuesday
The Corporate Wellness Challenge, co-sponsored by the Workplace Wellness Committee of the Blair County Chamber and Healthy Blair County Coalition, will hold an orientation tomorrow, November 20th from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Any business that plans to participate in the 2019 Challenge is encouraged to attend.

Executive Roundtable to Discuss Workforce Development Issues
The Blair County Chamber’s Executive Roundtable meeting will be held on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at The Blairmont Club in Hollidaysburg.  Philip Devorris, President/CEO of Blair Companies and the company’s COO, Raymond Plunket, will lead a discussion on workplace issues and will provide information on a STEM initiative created by the Chamber’s BASICS Committee. For further information on the Executive Roundtable, contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him.

Don’t Forget: Shop Small Saturday Happens This Week
From the time six years ago that American Express initiated the “Shop Small Saturday” program, the Blair County Chamber has been at the forefront of promoting its importance. The Chamber has worked with American Express to distribute promotional materials. Signs, window clings and welcome mats are among those materials. Shop Small Saturday is November 24th. Any Chamber-member business that would like to access any of the promotional materials can visit the Chamber office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Wednesday. Please call the office (943-8151) first to make sure there are still items to distribute.

“Business Before Hours” at Farmer’s Insurance Rescheduled
Last Friday’s “Business Before Hours” at Farmer’s Insurance in Altoona was postponed, due to bad weather. That event has been rescheduled for Friday, December 14th. The Farmer’s event will feature tours of the facility, a yogurt bar and a variety of breakfast items. Business Before Hours begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 9:00. There is no cost to attend for Chamber Members and non-members can attend for $10.00. Registration is important to allow the hosting business to get a sense of how many people to prepare food for. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online

Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Seeking Mentors
The Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program is seeking additional mentors for the current YEA! class. The commitment is one-hour each week for a six week period from December thru January. An orientation for mentors will be held on November 27th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Any business person willing to share his/her expertise with a group of creative young people should contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him.

Informational Meeting to Be Held for “Southern Sounds”
The first Blair County Chamber trip in 2019 – Southern Sounds – has already generated some early sign-ups and the next informational meeting on the trip will take place on November 28th at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. From July 28th to August 4th, the Chamber and its partner – Heritage Travel – will head to New Orleans, then to Tupelo, onto Memphis and, finally Nashville before flying home. The trip includes a Mississippi River dinner cruise, a tour of Graceland and a visit to the Grand Ole Opry. The cost is just $2,575 (plus air). To register to attend this meeting, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Student presentations are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Lunch will be provided at noon. Please RSVP to Judy Paul at 814-940-3400 or email to JAP24@psu.edu. There is no cost to attend.
