Don’t Miss Wednesday’s Informational Meeting for “Southern Sounds!”
The first Blair County Chamber trip in 2019 – Southern Sounds – has already generated some early sign-ups and the next informational meeting on the trip will take place this Wednesday, November 28th at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. From July 28th to August 4th, the Chamber and its partner – Heritage Travel – will head to New Orleans, then to Tupelo, onto Memphis and, finally Nashville before flying home. The trip includes a Mississippi River dinner cruise, a tour of Graceland and a visit to the Grand Ole Opry. The cost is just $2,575 (plus air). United Way Hosting Friday’s “Business Before Hours”
United Way of Blair County will host the next Blair County Chamber “Business Before Hours” at the organization’s new location in the Hollidaysburg Plaza in Duncansville. The event will include tours of the facility and a variety of breakfast items. Business Before Hours begins at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 9:00. There is no cost to attend for Chamber Members and non-members can attend for $10.00. Registration is important to allow the hosting business to get a sense of how many people to prepare food for. Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Seeking Mentors
The Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program is seeking additional mentors for the current YEA! class. The commitment is one-hour each week for a six week period from December thru January. An orientation for mentors will be held on November 27th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Any business person willing to share his/her expertise with a group of creative young people should contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him.
Deadline Approaching to Complete Data Security Survey
The Data Security Survey that the Chamber is conducting as a prelude to an informational event on December 18th has a deadline of November 30th to complete. If you’d like to complete the survey, click here.
WTAJ Your News Leader to Host “Visit to Industry”
The Blair County Chamber’s “Visit to Industry” will be held Wednesday, December 5th from 10:00 a.m. – Noon at WTAJ, located at 5000 6th Avenue. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost for Chamber Members to attend Visit to Industry but registration is required. Only 10 spots remain. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151. Visit to Industry is a program of the Chamber’s Farm-City Committee and is offered annually during Farm-City Month.
Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for November
The Blair County Chamber’s ability to offer quality programming, events, recognition and advocacy efforts depends largely on the willingness of sponsors to step up to help underwrite the costs associated those efforts. Non-Profit “Best Practices Forum” to Focus on Social Media
The Chamber’s Committee of Non-Profit Businesses has set its next Best Practices Forum for Friday, December 7th from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. The forum will focus attention on social media and the impact that it is having on both the business and education communities. Among the presenters will be Professor Kelly Rhodes of Saint Francis University, accompanied by a number of her students, who will provide insight into how “Gen Z” uses social media. The other presenter will be Rob Z, who will address social media platforms beyond Facebook and will talk about who is using them and how non-profits can look at ways to recruit dollars and volunteers by being more aware of social media options. The cost to attend the Best Practices Forum is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
Chamber, Penn State Altoona Once Again Partnering on Student Showcase
The Blair County Chamber is once again partnering on the Penn State Altoona Student Showcase, which will be held on December 7th at the Devorris Downtown Center. The event opens at 8:45 a.m. with a keynote address from George Sidney, President/CEO of McLanahan Corporation. Student presentations are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided at noon. Booths Available for 2019 Home & Garden Show
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Blair Bedford Builders Association are accepting vendor booth reservations for the 49th annual Blair County Home & Garden Show to be held March 1, 2 & 3, 2019 at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. Exhibitor booth space is now open for home and garden-related businesses interested in showcasing their products or services. The show is also accepting vendor applications for the Home Treasures room. Home Treasures offers a boutique-style setting that features home interior items, candles, spices, hand-crafted items, and much more.
