Informational Meeting on Chamber’s Sicily Trip is Wednesday
The Blair County Chamber is headed to Sicily. In partnership with Epic Journeys, the Chamber trip will leave October 18th and return on the 28th. The trip is officially dubbed “The Sicilain” and it includes visits to Palermo, Erice, Motya, Marsala, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, Modica, Syracuse, Savoca and Taormina. An informational meeting on the Sicily trip will be held this Wednesday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Anyone interested in learning more about that trip is asked to register to attend by calling 943-8151. There is no cost or obligation.

Blair County Commissioners to Speak at Thursday’s “Breakfast Club”
Blair County Commissioners Bruce Erb, Ted Beam and Terry Tomassetti will be the guest speakers at the first Chamber “Breakfast Club” of 2019 scheduled for this Thursday, January 10th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. As in the past, the format for the Breakfast Club involving elected officials is Q&A with questions being provided by Chamber members, coordinated by the Public Policy Committee. Public Policy Chair Greg White of Forney Financial Solutions will ask the questions. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the January Breakfast Club is Keller Engineers.

Chamber Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation Set for January 25th
The Blair County Chamber’s Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation will take place on January 25th beginning at 7:30 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The awards that will be presented that morning are the Athena Award, the Small Business Person of the Year, the George Award, the Donna D. Gority Servant Leadership Award, the Joseph P. Rosenhamer Chamber Spirit Award and the Young Professional of the Year Award. None of the award recipients will be identified in advance, another longstanding tradition. “Part of the allure of the Annual Meeting is the surprise-factor,” explained Chamber VP Judy Juda. “People enjoy seeing the reaction of the winners who don’t know that they’re receiving an award. The challenge for (the Chamber) is to figure out ways to get the winners to attend. We’ve had some harrowing experiences throughout the years.” Anyone wanting to attend the Annual Meeting Awards should contact the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Sponsorships for the Annual Meeting are available until January 18th. For information or to reserve a sponsorship, contact Jessie Covert at (814) 943-8151 or email her at jcovert@blairchamber.com.

Safety Presentation on Opioid Epidemic Focuses on Second Chances
The Safety Committee of the Blair County Chamber will complete a three-part series of presentations dealing with the county’s Opioid Epidemic on January 23rd from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. This presentation will focus on “Second Chances in the Workplace” and will include a panel discussion involving John McNeal, William Amigh of Blair Drug & Alcohol, Cory Seymour, Chief of Blair County Adult Probation and Parole and Troy Mays, Director of Nursing at Cove Forge Behavioral Health. You do not have to have attended the previous two parts of the series to attend this one. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
