WE-LEaD to Hold Networking Event on March 11th
The Chamber’s WE-LEaD (Women Encouraging – Leadership, Education and Development) program will host a networking event on March 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Altoona Grand Hotel and Conference Center.  The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber members and $40 for non-members. To register call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or or register online. Corporate Sponsor of the networking event is Leonard S. Fiore, Inc.
            
“Breakfast Club” to Focus on Operations Our Town Accomplishments
The next Blair County Chamber Breakfast Club program, set for March 14th from 7:45 - 9:00 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park, will be directing its attention to the many accomplishments of Operation Our Town, a community and business partnership that promotes healthy neighborhoods and protects its citizens from illegal drug use and resulting crime. During the Breakfast Club, the 2019 Operation Our Town Community Partnership Award will be presented to Amtran. The 2019 Law Enforcement Awards will also be presented. Attorney Pete Weeks will provide an update on current drug trends that the District Attorney’s Office confronts in its effort to keep the community safe. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 per person and includes a full breakfast buffet. For more information or to make reservations call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Safety Committee to Offer Program on Disaster Preparation
The Blair County Chamber’s Safety Committee will offer a program entitled “Emergency Preparedness for Business” on March 20th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. The program is coordinated through the South Central Mountains Regional Task Force (SCMRTF) and the Business Continuity and Preparedness Coalition (BCPC). The presenters will be Mark Taylor, Director of Public Safety for the Blair County Department of Emergency Services and Cheryl Johnson, Executive Director of the Private Industry Council of the Central Corridor. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A breakfast buffet is included. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
           

YEA! Students to Present Business Projects to Investor Panel
The students in the current class of the Blair County Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program will present their business projects to a panel of local investors at a special Investor Panel event to be held on March 19th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Downtown Center.  A reception for class members, their parents and the Investor Panel members will be held prior to the presentations at 5:00 p.m. There is no cost for people to attend the presentations and the public is invited to attend. This is the third class of students to participate in the YEA! program. The Investor Panel will determine the amount of funds to be allocated to the students to complete their businesses. The Panel will also select a Most Outstanding Business.  Representatives from that business will travel to Rochester, New York in May to compete in the national YEA! competition.

“Chamber Chat” Provides Information to Potential Chamber Members
If you are a member of the Blair County Chamber and know of a non-member business who you feel could benefit from Chamber membership, it might be a good idea for you to recommend “Chamber Chat.” That one hour program, which will be held at the Devorris Center for Business Development on March 14th at 3:00 p.m., will provide information to non-members on the many benefits of belonging to the Chamber. And if they attend and then join, the member who referred them will receive a $25 gift card to the Chamber Member business of their choice. A great deal, wouldn’t you agree? If you recommend someone, have then call the Chamber at 943-8151 to register for Chamber Chat. We’ll make sure it’s worth your while!

Young Professionals to Hold “March Madness” Networking
The Young Professionals of Blair County will be holding a “March Madness” Networking event on March 20th at the US Hotel Liberty Hall in Hollidaysburg. The event will be from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. and will feature hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Attendees are also encouraged to bring a completed NCAA Tournament Bracket for the chance to win a gift card. Cost to attend is $10 per person. To make a reservation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the event is Roberts Oxygen Company. Young Professionals of Blair County is a program of the Blair County Chamber.

Chamber Trips to Wild West, Sicily Still Have Limited Availability
If you’re planning on traveling with the Blair County Chamber during 2019, the opportunity to be included in either the Chamber’s American Wild West trip or its trip to Sicily is coming down the home stretch. The Chamber and Heritage Travel are offering a “Spirit of the American Wild West” trip. The Wild West trip will leave Altoona on August 23rd and return September 1st. The flight will be from Pittsburgh to Denver, returning on the same route. Among the attractions included on the trip are Mount Rushmore, Red Rock Amphitheater, Colorado Music Hall of Fame, Buckhorn Exchange, Buffalo Bill’s Grave/Museum, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Continental Divide, Crazy Horse Monument, Estes Park and Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Call Heritage Travel at (814) 946-1600 for more details or to sign up. Done in partnership with Epic Journeys, the Chamber’s trip to Sicily will leave October 18th and return on the 28th. The trip is officially dubbed “The Sicilain” and it includes visits to Palermo, Erice, Motya, Marsala, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, Modica, Syracuse, Savoca and Taormina. The trip will also include a day in Zurich on the return trip. A final informational meeting on the Sicily trip will be held on March 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Anyone interested in learning more about that trip is asked to register to attend by calling 943-8151. There is no cost or obligation to attend.
           

Business Hall of Fame Committee Seeking New Members
The committee that plans the Chamber’s Business Hall of Fame Dinner is looking for additional members. The committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. at the Chamber Office, located in the Devorris Center for Business Development. Any Chamber Member interested in being part of the committee should call Judy Juda at the Chamber (943-8151) or email her.
           

Registration Underway for Highmark/Chamber Golf Classic
Registration is now open for the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield / Chamber Golf Classic. The Classic will be held on Monday, May 6th at Iron Masters Country Club with lunch/registration at 11:00 and tee-off at Noon. If you are interested, simply complete the attached form and return to The Chamber!  Any questions, please contact Stacy Hoover at The Chamber, 943-8151.

The Chamber’s Small Business Partners Committee helps local small businesses to better meet the challenges associated with doing business better. The committee’s effectiveness is tied to the amount of input it receives from small business people.
