Chamber Energy Program sign-up ends Wednesday
If you haven’t yet signed-up to be part of the Chamber’s Energy Program aimed at saving members considerable dollars on the cost of electricity, evidently one of two things has happened. Either you’re a procrastinator or you have so much money that saving some isn’t all that important. In either case, you need to know that you have just two days until it will be too late to register for this great program.  Many of your neighbors (and no doubt a few competitors) have already signed-up. What’s holding you up? To download an Energy Program Enrollment Form, click here. You can call and thank us later!

Date set for Blair County Economic Summit
The Chamber, ABCD Corporation and the Allegheny Mountains Convention & Visitors Bureau will co-sponsor an Economic Summit on Sept. 20 at the Blair County Convention Center. The event will include a breakfast, a presentation on the current state of the Blair County economy, a video presentation on strategic initiatives and a keynote address by Congressman Bill Shuster. A news conference providing more details as well as a formalization of an alliance among the three participating agencies will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 16, also at the Convention Center.

Chamber's trip to Ireland adds additional dates
The Chamber’s trip to Ireland has added additional dates for anyone interested in options to the original Oct. 2-11 dates. "The motor coach spots for the original date have been filled so we have added Oct. 9-18 and Oct. 12-21 as optional dates,” reported Donna Wilt of Classic Travel. “It should be attractive to anyone who had a conflict to begin with. We’re doing our best to be accommodating.” For further information, contact Donna at 696-3558.

LBC Class schedules fundraisers for revitalization project

The Leadership Blair County Class of 2010 currently has two fund raisers taking place to raise additional money toward their class project, the Booker T. Washington Revitalization Project community park. The first is an MTO Coupon sale. Cost is $4 per coupon or a book of 10 for $40. See any class member to purchase. The second is an Ice Cream Sale. Stock your freezer on Saturday, July 10, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the K-Mart parking lot on Plank Road, Altoona. Galliker's Ice Cream cartons (11 flavors) and Popsicle and Good Humor brand novelties will be available in case lots at lower than wholesale prices!

Small business members now have access to key information
The Chamber recognizes that many small businesses have a difficult time in things like hiring, regulatory compliance and recordkeeping.  For that reason, the organization has purchased several publications that it is willing to lend to interested Chamber Members. The publications are: Principles of Payroll Administration, Pennsylvania Human Resources Manual, Model Policies and Forms for Pennsylvania Employers, An Employer’s Guide to Employee Benefits, Guide to FMLA and ADA , Employment Verification and Employer’s Guide to Wage and Hour. To borrow a publication, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151.

Two days remain to apply for Leadership Blair County
The 17th class of The Chamber’s Leadership Blair County Adult program will begin its yearlong journey into servant leadership in September. Applying to be part of that class is taking place now with the application process ending June 30. “We always have a high amount of interest at this time of the year and we still restrict our classes to 24 people,” explained Judy Juda, The Chamber’s Vice-President of Programming & Membership Education. “It’s important that interested people apply as soon as possible so that we can set up interviews.” People may apply online or can secure an application by calling The Chamber at 943-8151.

"Issues" trilogy on healthcare continues this week

The final of three “Issues” programs on Healthcare Reform, to be broadcast on the Altoona Public Access Channel, will show today and will air every Monday at 11 a.m. and every Tuesday at 9 p.m. throughout the months of June and July. The focus of this third show is on healthcare providers and includes a panel consisting of Christine Cox of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Maureen Frucella of Preferred Healthcare System, David Duncan of Blair Medical Associates, Dr. Zane Gates, and Dr. J. Grant Hormell. Carolyn Donaldson of WTAJ Your News Leader is the moderator for the program. Sponsors of the program are: Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Preferred Healthcare System and Young, Oakes, Brown & Company.
