Blair Business Mirror to Be Published Tomorrow
The April issue of the Blair Business Mirror will be published tomorrow as a supplement to the Altoona Mirror. The cover story in this issue focuses on Lakemont Park’s 125th anniversary. Inside features include a Q&A with Joe Lehman, Jr. of Joseph P. Lehman, Inc. and one on the positive impact of Give-Back Day, a program of the Chamber’s Farm-City Committee. Copies of the Blair Business Mirror will be mailed to each member-business by the end of the week.

ARC to Host Wednesday’s “Business Before Hours”
ARC Federal Credit Union will host the next Chamber “Business Before Hours” on April 10th from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at 1919 Seventh Avenue in Altoona. At the conclusion of the event, the Chamber Ambassadors will conduct a ribbon cutting to celebrate ARC’s newly expanded facilities. The day will include giveaways to members and a live radio broadcast on WALY 103.9 from noon until 2:00 p.m. There is no cost for Chamber members to attend the Business Before Hours. Non-members may attend for $10. Registration is required. Call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 to register or register online.

Hanrahan to Speak at Thursday’s “Breakfast Club”
One of the top relief pitchers for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the past decade will be the speaker at Thursday's Blair County Chamber “Breakfast Club.” Joel Hanrahan, known affectionately as “The Hammer,” pitched for the Pirates from 2009 until 2012 when he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. Hanrahan was named to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game in both 2012 and 2013. The 37-year-old native of Des Moines, Iowa was named pitching coach for the Altoona Curve earlier this year. He will be introduced at the Breakfast Club by Curve General Manager Derek Martin. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members and includes a full breakfast buffet. For more information or to make reservations call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the April Breakfast Club is Coach 4 Retirees.

Chamber Safety Committee to Present “Second Chances in the Workplace”
In response to the ongoing opioid epidemic, the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Safety Committee will hold part three of an educational workshop series on Wednesday, April 24, 7:30 – 10:00 a.m., at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Duncansville. The workshop, entitled, Second Chances in the Workplace, will feature a panel comprised of John McNeal and William Amigh of Blair Drug & Alcohol; Cory Seymour, Chief, Blair County Adult Probation & Parole, and Troy Mays, Director of Nursing, Cove Forge Behavioral Health. Attendees will hear inspirational stories from those who have battled addiction and criminal pasts but have now successfully re-entered the workforce. The cost to attend the event is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A buffet breakfast is included. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Time to Redeem Your “Buy Here Bucks”
A Chamber initiative created to encourage greater sales of products and services at local retailers and hospitality businesses has been discontinued. The “Buy Here Bucks” gift certificate program, which began a little more than a year ago, fell short of expectations both in terms of participation and financial viability. Anyone who has purchased “Buy Here Bucks” can still redeem them at the businesses that accept them (that list is on the Chamber Website at www.blairchamber.com) until midnight on May 24, 2019. For more information, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Chamber Looking to Hire a Website & Social Media Specialist
The Blair County Chamber is looking to hire a staff person to handle website development and social media. The position is fulltime and features competitive salary and benefits. Interested persons should submit resume and cover letter to Joe Hurd at jhurd@blairchamber.com. The Blair County Chamber is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Some Spots Remain for Chamber Trip to Sicily
A few spots still remain for the Blair County Chamber’s trip to Sicily. Done in partnership with Epic Journeys, the trip to Sicily will leave October 18th and return on the 28th. The trip is officially dubbed “The Sicilain” and it includes visits to Palermo, Erice, Motya, Marsala, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, Modica, Syracuse, Savoca and Taormina. The trip will also include a day in Zurich on the return trip. Anyone interested in learning more about that trip should call (814) 266-5070.
