At its meeting on Wednesday, the Blair County Chamber Foundation will take a close look at the Chamber’s BASICS program, getting an update from those who chair the various subcommittees of that program. “As the funding source of BASICS, the Foundation wants to stay informed of any changes that will impact the program,” explained Foundation Board President Brian Irwin. The Foundation is the 501C-3 entity that handles donations and grants that are made to help BASICS programs operate. For more information on the Blair County Chamber Foundation, contact Cindy Cessna at 943-8151 or email her.

New Committee on Recruitment Seeking Members
The Chamber’s Board of Directors has created a new committee that will be charged with determining new and better ways to recruit members to the organization. “The Board believes that we need to take a more formal approach to reaching non-members and helping them to understand the importance of the business community working more closely together,” explained Chamber Board Chair Darin Tornatore. Any Chamber Member who would like to be part of this new committee should call Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.

Safety Program on Aging Workforce Rescheduled to March 4th
As a company’s workforce begins to gray, new challenges emerge for employers.  Those challenges will be the basis of the next Blair County Chamber Safety Program on March 4th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Seas House in Duncansville. Colleen Medlin, Director of Clinical Operations for WorkPlace Health and Workers’ Compensation at Phoenix Rehabilitation, will present, “The Aging Workforce: Reducing OSHA Recordables.” Her presentation will focus on knowing the aging workforce statistics, the impact of aging on the body, identifying how specific body parts are affected by specific activities and discussing potential solutions for managing Workers’ Compensation spending and reducing OSHA recordables to promote a healthy workplace. The cost to attend this program is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A buffet breakfast is included. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

The cost includes a buffet breakfast and materials. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
