Chamber Office Closed for Holiday
The Blair County Chamber Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday of this week in commemoration of Thanksgiving. The office will reopen on Monday, November 28th at 8:30 a.m. For information about The Chamber or to register for events or programs, visit The Chamber Website.

Board of Directors Approves 2012 Officers
At last week’s Board of Directors meeting, The Chamber Board approved the following officers for 2012: Board Chair – Ron Muffie of The Hite Company; Board Chair-Elect – Doug Mingle of Roaring Spring Department Store; Treasurer – Gary Drenning of Blair Companies; Vice-President of the Education Division – Jessica Lattanza of Blair Medical Associates; Vice-President of Communications/Advocacy – Jack Collins of Link Computter Corporation; and Vice-President of Promotions/Events – Bill T. Ward of Ward Transport & Logistics.

Legislative Breakfast to Involve Municipal Secretaries
As The Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee completes its fact-finding meetings with local municipalities, it welcomes the secretaries from the county’s boroughs and townships for a breakfast get-together on Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center. “The key to establishing an effective line of communication with our municipalities is to get input from as many of the people close to the action as possible,” emphasized Thad Will of M&T Bank, who chairs the committee. “The secretaries, for the most part, are the gatekeepers with a hand on the pulse of what’s happening. We’re looking forward to their perspective.”  Sponsoring the breakfast is GAI Consultants. For more information on the Legislative Action Committee, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151.

"Business After Hours" Hosting Available for February
A scheduling conflict has created an opportunity for a Chamber-member business or organization to host the “Business After Hours” on February 23rd.   The next available date to host an After Hours isn’t until 2013.  “This is a rare opportunity,” explained Stacy Hoover, The Chamber’s Vice-President of Events & Technology.  “February has generally been a good month to host because people are anxious to get out and socialize after enduring winter weather.”  Anyone interested in being considered should call Stacy at 943-8151 or email her at shoover@blairchamber.com.

Chamber to Partner With Dale Carnegie on "Skills For Success"
The Chamber and Dale Carnegie Training will once again partner on a program that will begin on January 26th and run for the following eight weeks. “Skills For Success” will provide attendees an extensive background on things like effective networking, relationship building, stress management and leadership development – just to name a few. Sessions will be held at the Comfort Inn Hotel in Duncansville. For more information or to register, contact Jeff Davis at (814) 931-1963.

Bahamas, Italy Next Two Chamber Destinations
The popularity of The Chamber’s trip to China has led to numerous requests from Chamber Members for the organization to do future trips. Beginning in March, those requests will be honored. The Chamber will work with two of its travel agency members – Heritage Travel and Classic Travel – to provide fun and relaxation at prime destinations. From March 18-25, travelers can cruise from Baltimore to the Bahamas on Carnival Cruise Lines, visiting Port Canaveral, Nassau and Freeport. For details contact Heritage Travel Agency at (814) 946-1600. From October 7-14, it’s “Italy’s Great Cities” with Classic Travel. The trip includes visits to Rome, Pisa, Florence, Verona, Venice and Ferrara. Call Classic Travel at 696-3558. Informational meetings about both trips will be held in either mid-December or early January.

Home & Garden Show Booths Available
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Blair Bedford Builders Association have announced that booths are available for the 42nd Annual Blair County Home & Garden Show to be held March 2, 3, & 4, 2012 at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona.
