Blair Business Mirror to Feature Local Attractions
The June Blair Business Mirror hits the streets tomorrow and the cover feature will focus on Blair County’s many attractions and the challenges that they face in making people inside and outside the county more aware of the many great things located here. Among other features will be a Q&A with Mike Wolford of Gearhart Moving & Storage and a look at the new Federation program offered by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that will offer free memberships to businesses in our Chamber that qualify. Any business that doesn’t receive the Altoona Mirror will have a copy of the Blair Business Mirror mailed to them.

Dr. Murray to Address Thursday’s Chamber Breakfast Club
Dr. Dennis Murray, who has served as Superintendent of the Altoona Area School District and Chief School Administrator of the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center since 1984 will be the keynote speaker at the Blair County Chamber “Breakfast Club” this Thursday, June 13th, beginning at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Dr. Murray will retire later this month. He has been a strong supporter of The Chamber during his years at Altoona, according to Chamber President Joe Hurd. “He has been a staunch advocate of our BASICS program, has been an active participant in our Executive Roundtable and has encouraged his staff to assist in whatever ways possible to maintain a strong connection between education and business.” The June Breakfast Club is sponsored by Keystone Business Support. Business Excellence Dinner Set for Next Monday
The Chamber’s Annual Business Excellence Dinner, honoring Ben Stapelfeld of New Pig Corporation, will be held on Monday, June 17th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:45. Among the highlights of this prestigious event will be a keynote address by Jack Fowler, Publisher of National Review. Reservations for the dinner can be made by calling The Chamber at 943-8151 or by registering online. Stapelfeld will be the twelfth recipient of the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence.” Previous recipients of the award are: Ernie Wissinger (2002), G. William Ward (2003), Stephen Sheetz (2004), Donald Devorris (2005), Willard Campbell (2006), John Wolf (2007), Lee Hite (2008), Donald Detwiler (2009), Michael McLanahan (2010), Barry Smith (2011) and Fred Imler (2012).
 
Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries Hosting “Business After Hours”
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Business After Hours at Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, 916 Hickory Street, Hollidaysburg, this Wednesday, June 12, from 5 – 7 p.m.  Business After Hours is a laid-back networking event featuring food, beverages, and door prizes. Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries provides services that span the generations from child care through senior residential care through retirement living communities, in-home personal care services, in-home skilled nursing services and rehab, Senior Daily Living Centers, counseling, Growing Years Early Learning Centers, Kid Stop school-age-programs, Head Start, Early Head Start and Family Centers of Bedford County. Join us for a wonderful evening, where you will learn about the many services ALSM has to offer. Cost to attend Business After Hours is only $6 for Chamber Members and $12 for non-members (pre-registered). LBC Adult Class to Graduate Twenty-Three
The nineteenth class of The Chamber’s Leadership Blair County program will graduate on Thursday night during ceremonies at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The graduation/reception will start at 5:00 p.m. and includes a class presentation, conferral of diplomas and leadership pins and recognition of businesses that have supported the program by sponsoring class members. The event will conclude at 7:00 p.m. LBC alumni are invited to attend at just $15-per-person. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 
"Dairy Day" is This Friday in Hollidaysburg
In celebration of Dairy Month in Pennsylvania, the Blair County Chamber’s Farm-City Committee will hold a Dairy Day promotion beginning at noon and lasting until the ice-cream is gone this Friday, June 14th in front of the Blair County Courthouse. The committee will be making free ice cream sundaes using Ritchey’s Ice Cream. Ritchey’s Dairy is one of the co-sponsors of the event. WE-LEaD “Lunch ‘n’ Learn” to Focus on Advance Directives
The Chamber’s Women Encouraging: Leadership, Education and Development (WE-LEaD) will hold a Lunch ‘n’ Learn program on Tuesday, June 18th from noon to 1:30 p.m. at The Blairmont Club. The title of the program will be, “The Ultimate Decisions: Who Will Make Yours?” Guest speaker will be Attorney Vicki Wertz – Hospital Attorney, Compliance/Privacy Officer at Altoona Regional Health System. Her presentation will focus on the importance of making health care decisions known to your loved ones, what considerations are involved, naming a substitute decision-maker and how to go about putting it in writing. The cost to attend is $22 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
