McGinnis to Meet With Chamber’s Transportation Committee
Waste, fraud and abuse will be the topics of a meeting this Thursday in which the Blair County Chamber’s Transportation Committee and State Representative John McGinnis will discuss ways to make Pennsylvania’s transportation system more efficient and less costly. “We recognize that Representative McGinnis voted against the Transportation Funding bill because he believes that the system needs refined,” explained Committee Chair Chuck Meyers. “We’re pleased that he’s agreed to meet with us to identify where that refinement needs to take place.” For more information on the Transportation Committee, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him.
“Backbone Bash” Set for Friday at the Buccinese Society
The much-anticipated “Backbone Bash,” sponsored by The Chamber’s Small Business Partners, will be held this Friday, August 1st at the Buccinese Society beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event gives representatives from small businesses the opportunity to network and, in general, have a fun and relaxing time. The cost to attend, which includes food and adult beverages is just $10/person. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Host sponsor for the Backbone Bash is JMG Systems.
Chamber Seeking Fall Intern
The Blair County Chamber has an opening for a Fall intern. Any college student majoring in Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing or Journalism should send a resume to Linda Stotler at lstotler@blairchamber.com.
GRYP Collecting Donations for “Stuff the Bus”
Budget cutbacks have made it almost impossible for schools to provide school supplies to kids who may not be able to afford the tools they need for their education. The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Growth & Relationships of Young Professionals (GRYP) has teamed up with the United Way of Blair County and other area businesses to “Stuff the School Bus” to help get kids the materials they need to succeed. School supplies can be dropped off at the Chamber office, located at 3900 Industrial Park Drive, Suite 12, Altoona, PA, now until July 30. For more information contact the Blair County Chamber of Commerce at (814) 943-8151.
Juniata College President to Speak at August “Breakfast Club”
Dr. James Troha, President of Juniata College since last November, will be the guest speaker at the next Chamber “Breakfast Club,” set for August 14th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Dr. Troha will speak about the challenges that higher education faces and the role that the business community plays in helping colleges to better identify the specific needs of the future workforce. The cost to attend the Breakfast Club is $16 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the August Breakfast Club is Andrews & Beard Law Office.
