Chamber Board to Take Hard Look at Programs, Events
As a follow-up to its retreat in April, the Blair County Chamber Board of Directors will begin an extended look at the organization’s programs and events to determine whether staff time and member preference are being addressed effectively.  “We recognize the importance of making certain that our members see the relationship between what we offer and what they indicate that they need,” explained Board Chair Doug Mingle. “So we’re inviting committee chairs to make short presentations on their committee goals and how The Chamber is benefitting from their efforts. That will help us to prioritize where our staff allocates the majority of its time.”  The Chamber Board meets Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Devorris Center.

GRYP Summer Bash is Friday at Barneywood
The Chamber’s Growth and Relationships of Young Professionals (GRYP) will hold its Summer Bash on August 22nd at Barneywood (327 Tee Box Road in Duncansville). The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will end at 9:00 p.m. There is also a golf component that will begin at 3:00 that day with prizes for the winning team. The cost to attend the Bash is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. It includes food, drinks, and all activities (including golf). Door prizes will be drawn. Entertainment will be provided by Nashville recording artist Eric Husick. Corporate Sponsor of the Summer Bash is Woodmen of the World. Businesses Asked to Participate in Needs Assessment
Please take the time to assist the Altoona-Blair County Development Corp. in identifying the hiring, training and business development needs in our region. This effort is part of the Jobs 1st PA program administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the information gathered will be used to offer subsidize training and hiring for local companies. We are asking for your help by completing an industry specific survey either online or in hard copy. Links to both the online version and PDF downloads can be accessed at http://www.abcdcorp.org/jobs1st.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey before August 31 (if your organization has already completed the survey we thank you very much and there is no need to complete again). All information is confidential and will only be shared in a summary format. Contact Matt Fox at ABCD Corp. for any questions or to set up a meeting regarding the survey, he can be reached at mattf@abcdcorp.org or 814-944-6113.
