Chamber Office Closed on Memorial Day
The Blair County Chamber Office will be closed on Monday in recognition of Memorial Day. The office will re-open on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. To access Chamber information or to register for a program or event, visit the Chamber Website.

“Role Models” Program Re-scheduled for June 3rd
The Blair County Chamber’s “Role Models” program, originally scheduled for May 28th, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 3rd from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center.  Michael Fiore, Executive Vice-President of Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. of Altoona, and Joe Meadows, a partner in J.V. Meadows & Sons, Inc. of Duncansville will be the Role Models featured at the June 3rd program.  The change in dates was made to avoid a conflict with the Boy Scout luncheon, set for May 28th, in which the Sheetz Family will be honored.  The cost to attend Role Models is $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members.  Lunch is included. Catalyst Space to Host Wednesday’s “Business BEFORE Hours”
The Chamber's next Business BEFORE Hours, being hosted by Catalyst Space will be held this Wednesday, May 27th from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. Catalyst Space is located at 1331 Twelfth Avenue, Suite 205 in Altoona. Be sure to bring plenty of business cards to this great networking event. There is NO cost for Chamber Members to attend. Safety Program on Accident Investigations Set for Friday
The Chamber's next Safety Program will be held this Friday, May 29 from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. at Hoss's Steak and Sea House in Duncansville. Topic for the program is: "How to Conduct Effective Accident Investigations" and the presenter is Peter Calabrese from Rockwood Casualty Insurance. Cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for Non-members. A Breakfast Buffet is included. To make reservations, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 

Chamber Board of Directors Approves Five New Members
The Board of Directors of the Blair County Chamber met yesterday at the Devorris Center for Business Development. The Board approved five new businesses for membership. The new members are: DiVersity Salon & Spa, LLC of Altoona, The Giorgio Foundation of Hastings, Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham of Altoona, Mountain Side Supply, LLC of Altoona, and YaZo Marketing & Business Development Strategies of Altoona.

Business Excellence Dinner is June 15th at The Casino
Judge D. Brooks Smith, who has been a federal judge for more than 25-years, will be the keynote speaker at the Blair County Chamber’s Business Excellence Dinner, set for June 15th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The highlight of the dinner will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence.  Tim Sissler of Reliance Bank will be the recipient of that award.  Dr. Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry, Chancellor at Penn State Altoona, will be the MC for the Business Excellence Dinner. Among those making brief comments about the honoree will be Allan Hancock, President of The Hancock Group; Duncan Campbell, President/CEO of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, Jen Hoyer, Tim Sissler’s daughter; and Brittany Boslet, a local athlete. Sissler will be the 14th recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award are: Ernie Wissinger (2002), G. William Ward (2003), Stephen Sheetz (2004), Donald Devorris (2005), Willard Campbell (2006), John Wolf (2007), Lee Hite (2008), Donald Detwiler (2009), Michael McLanahan (2010), Barry Smith (2011), Fred Imler (2012), Ben Stapelfeld (2013) and William Thompson, Jr. (2014).  Reservations are being accepted for the Business Excellence Dinner. Registrations Continue for Chamber’s “Five Rivers” Cruise
The Blair County Chamber is heading to Europe in late Fall for its first-ever river cruise. The cruise is being done in cooperation with Heritage Travel. The special wine-themed “5-River European Cruise” will depart from the Chamber Office in the Devorris Center for Business Development on November 3rd, will fly from Dulles International Airport for an overnight flight to Prague and will return on November 13th from Paris. The trip will include one-night sightseeing stays at 5-star hotels in both Prague and Paris with the river cruise in-between. The Chamber trip will feature excursions on the Vistava, Main, Rhine, Moselle and Seine rivers via Avalon Waterways “Visionary,” considered the finest river vessel in Europe.
