Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for May

Fiore, Meadows are Wednesday’s “Role Models”
The Blair County Chamber’s “Role Models” program will be held on Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center.  Michael Fiore, Executive Vice-President of Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. of Altoona, and Joe Meadows, a partner in J.V. Meadows & Sons, Inc. of Duncansville will be the Role Models featured at Wednesday’s program. The cost to attend Role Models is $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members.  Lunch is included. To register for Role Models, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 
Young Professionals of Blair County to Have Initial Meeting
The Chamber’s re-branded “Young Professionals of Blair County” will have its inaugural Steering Committee meeting on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the ABCD Conference Room, located in the Devorris Center for Business Development.  The Committee will undertake the planning process for programming and events for the remainder of 2015 and beyond.  For more information on the Young Professionals of Blair County, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Leadership Adult Class to Undergo Final Session
The final session of The Chamber’s Leadership Blair County class will take place this Friday beginning at 7:45 a.m. at Park Hills Country Club.  The session will include opportunity for feedback from class members on the LBC program as well as discussion of the importance of servant leadership.  The class will graduate on June 11th.  For more information on Leadership Blair County, contact Judy Juda at 943-8151 or email her at jjuda@blairchamber.com
 

Just Two Weeks Until Chamber’s Business Excellence Dinner
Judge D. Brooks Smith, who has been a federal judge for more than 25-years, will be the keynote speaker at the Blair County Chamber’s Business Excellence Dinner, set for June 15th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The highlight of the dinner will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence.  Tim Sissler of Reliance Bank will be the recipient of that award.  Dr. Lori J. Bechtel-Wherry, Chancellor at Penn State Altoona, will be the MC for the Business Excellence Dinner.  Among those making brief comments about the honoree will be Allan Hancock, President of The Hancock Group; Duncan Campbell, President/CEO of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, Jen Hoyer, Tim Sissler’s daughter; and Brittany Boslet, a local athlete. Sissler will be the 14th recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award are: Ernie Wissinger (2002), G. William Ward (2003), Stephen Sheetz (2004), Donald Devorris (2005), Willard Campbell (2006), John Wolf (2007), Lee Hite (2008), Donald Detwiler (2009), Michael McLanahan (2010), Barry Smith (2011), Fred Imler (2012), Ben Stapelfeld (2013) and William Thompson, Jr. (2014).  Reservations are being accepted for the Business Excellence Dinner.  Call The Chamber at 943-8151 to make those reservations or register online.

Chamber’s “Five Rivers” Cruise to Include Prague, Paris
The Blair County Chamber is heading to Europe in late Fall for its first-ever river cruise. The cruise is being done in cooperation with Heritage Travel. The special wine-themed “5-River European Cruise” will depart from the Chamber Office in the Devorris Center for Business Development on November 3rd, will fly from Dulles International Airport for an overnight flight to Prague and will return on November 13th from Paris. The trip will include one-night sightseeing stays at 5-star hotels in both Prague and Paris with the river cruise in-between. The Chamber trip will feature excursions on the Vistava, Main, Rhine, Moselle and Seine rivers via Avalon Waterways “Visionary,” considered the finest river vessel in Europe. . . . to Lynn Gardini, owner of the local Home Helpers franchise in Hollidaysburg, who was recognized with a Starfish Pin Award at the 2015 Home Helpers National Conference in Orlando.
. . . to North American Communications which was among the winners of the 2015 Hermes Creative Awards competition.  NAC received both a gold award and an honorable mention for its 2014 outdoor advertising campaigns.
. . . to Robin DeShong, a science teacher at Altoona Area High School, who recently received the Lauretta Woodson Award from the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.  The award recognized DeShong for her dedication and exemplary service relevant to the learning process and growth of students.
. . . to Cathy Stenson, professor of Mathematics at Juniata College, who received the 2015 Distinguished Faculty Mentor of Undergraduate Mathematics Students Award at the annual meeting of the QAllegheny Mountain Section of the Mathematical Association of America.
