The Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors recently approved the following new members: Altoona Grand Hotel, Altoona Roofing & Sheet Metal, ARM Group of State College, Atlas Therapy of Altoona, Equipment Depot of Tyrone, Fairfield Inn & Suites & TownePlace Suites by Marriott, HalenHardy of Bellwood, Hearth Creative of Altoona, IPI Security Services of Altoona, Mr. Charles Kaminsky (retired), The LOV Foundation of Altoona, Omni Bedford Springs Resort and Spa of Bedford, Sarah Donley Sharing is Caring Fund, and SLG Web Design of Hollidaysburg.
“Buy Here. Live Here.” Seeking Additional Funding Support
The Blair County Chamber’s “Buy Here. Live Here.” program is soliciting contributions from local individuals and businesses to assist in funding the media marketing campaign that will take place during the second half of 2015. “We have a number of things that we hope to accomplish before the end of the year,” admitted Diana McClure of Keller Engineers who chairs the Buy Here. Live Here. Committee. “We’re hoping people who like what they’ve seen so far will help us continue the battle to promote local purchasing.” Anyone willing to make a contribution should contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151.
Chamber Plans 4th Trip to China
Back by popular demand is the Blair County Chamber’s trip to China. The nine-day excursion will take place from April 7-16, 2016 and will once again be conducted through Citslinc. The price remains incredible at $2199 (including flights, meals and all accommodations at 5-star hotels.) The only significant change from the three previous Chamber trips is that the flight originates at Dulles Airport instead of JFK – a real plus to our travelers. The Chamber will hold an informational meeting on Tuesday, August 25th at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. To register for that meeting, call The Chamber at (814) 943-8151.
ACE Award Nominations Are Still Being Accepted
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the Agricultural Community Excellence (ACE) Award. This award will be presented at the annual Farm-City Dinner held in the fall. Simply click here for a Nomination Form. Deadline for nominations is July 1, 2015.
Chamber’s “Five Rivers” Cruise to Include Prague, Paris
The Blair County Chamber is heading to Europe in late Fall for its first-ever river cruise. The cruise is being done in cooperation with Heritage Travel. The special wine-themed “5-River European Cruise” will depart from the Chamber Office in the Devorris Center for Business Development on November 3rd, will fly from Dulles International Airport for an overnight flight to Prague and will return on November 13th from Paris. The trip will include one-night sightseeing stays at 5-star hotels in both Prague and Paris with the river cruise in-between. The Chamber trip will feature excursions on the Vistava, Main, Rhine, Moselle and Seine rivers via Avalon Waterways “Visionary,” considered the finest river vessel in Europe. . . . to Sandy Ivory, a retired employee of Keller Engineers, who recently received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Highway Engineers. Ivory was the first female national president of that organization.
