The next Chamber “Issues” program, which was scheduled to be shown on Altoona Public Access Channel in November, will be rescheduled for a later showing. The program, which will now tape December 2nd, is entitled, “The Role of Higher Education in Regional Development.”   The one hour program will be moderated by Carolyn Donaldson of WTAJ-TV. The panel will consist of Dr. Lori J. Sponsorship of the program is still available and can be secured, at $150, by calling Jessie Covert at 943-8151.

“Role Models” Program Featuring Kruger, Port Set for Thursday
The next Blair County Chamber “Role Models” program will be held this Thursday, November 12th from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center. State Senator John Eichelberger will be the featured speaker at the next Chamber “Breakfast Club” this Thursday, November 12th. The event begins at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. As with other elected officials, the format for Breakfast Club will be Q&A with questions being submitted to The Chamber by Chamber Members. Richard Fiore, Jr., chair of the Legislative Action Committee, will ask the questions to the Senator. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

LBC Youth to Discuss Impact of Voting, Justice
When The Chamber’s Leadership Blair County Youth class meets on Tuesday, it will have an opportunity to gain some insight into the county’s justice system.  The session will feature a tour of both the Blair County Court House and the Blair County Prison.  The class will also have a discussion about the realities of voting and not voting.  For more information on the LBC Youth program, contact Judy Juda at 943-8151 or email her at jjuda@blairchamber.com.

Local Government Session Next for LBC Adult Class
“Debate” will be the key word on Friday as the Leadership Blair County Adult class heads to Roaring Spring for Session Two.  Class members have been assigned to defend positions on such topics as Armed Personnel in Schools, Taxing of Municipalities That Use State Police and Tax Exempt Status for Non-Profits.  The class will also discuss how to become a servant leader.  For more information on the LBC Adult program, contact Judy Juda at 943-8151 or email her at jjuda@blairchamber.com.

Safety Program to Focus on Personal Protective Equipment
The next educational program of The Chamber’s Safety Committee will cover the basics of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including how to determine what you need, selecting the appropriate PPE and staying OSHA compliant in the process.  The program will be held on Friday, November 20th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s in Duncansville.  Speakers will be Tim Rea and Randy Santone from Innovative Technologies, Inc. and Adam Hetrick and Matt Ference from Mountain Research.  The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members.  A full breakfast is included.  The sponsor of the safety program is Albemarle Corporation.  To register, call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Continues 2016 China Trip Registration
Registration continues for the 2016 Chamber Trip to China. The nine-day excursion will take place from April 7-16, 2016 and will once again be conducted through Citslinc. The price remains incredible at $2199 (including flights, meals and all accommodations at 5-star hotels.) The only significant change from the three previous Chamber trips is that the flight originates at Dulles Airport instead of JFK – a real plus to local travelers. Travel to Dulles from Altoona and back is included as part of the trip. For more information, call The Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Registration Begins for Chamber Trip to Germany
If an April trip to China doesn’t satisfy your travel needs, have we got a deal for you! From September 18-29, the Blair County Chamber and Classic Travel will offer a 12-day, fully escorted trip to Germany. The trip covers Germany’s most famous cities, includes a day cruise on the Rhine River and also takes place during Oktoberfest.  For further information, call The Chamber at 943-8151.
