Pittsburgh Attorney to Speak to Non-Profit Committee
Attorney Jack Owen of the Pittsburgh law firm of Rhoades & Owen, LLC will be the keynote speaker at the next Best Practices Forum, hosted by The Chamber’s Committee of Non-Profit Businesses. Owen is an expert on non-profit law and is on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Organizations (PANO). Owen will provide a federal and state non-profit update, will talk about how the PA State Budget standoff will likely impact non-profits, will offer insight on the status of the Purely Public Charities Constitutional Amendment and will answer questions from attendees on topics related to non-profits. The Best Practices Forum will be held on Friday, December 4th from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. There is no charge for Chamber non-profits to attend but space is limited so call The Chamber today at 943-8151 to reserve yours.

Breakfast Club Presentation to Focus of Overtime Law
Even though the Department of Labor’s new rules regarding overtime payment to employees may not face the aggressive implementation date originally predicted, smart employers will begin preparing now, according to the local attorney that will be the keynote speaker at the next Blair County Chamber’s monthly “Breakfast Club.” Attorney David Pertile, a partner at Hippo, Fleming & Pertile, will explain which employees will be eligible for overtime under the new rules, what changes are proposed for White Collar Exemptions, what minimum salaries will be required for management employees and how to stay in compliance with the law after the new rules take effect. The Chamber Breakfast Club begins at 7:45 a.m. on December 10th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The cost to attend is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A full breakfast is included. To register, call The Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the December Breakfast Club is Altoona Mirror.

Signed-Up for The Chamber’s Trip to China Yet?
Registration continues for the 2016 Chamber Trip to China. The nine-day excursion will take place from April 7-16, 2016 and will once again be conducted through Citslinc. The price remains incredible at $2199 (including flights, meals and all accommodations at 5-star hotels.) The only significant change from the three previous Chamber trips is that the flight originates at Dulles Airport instead of JFK – a real plus to local travelers. Travel to Dulles from Altoona and back is included as part of the trip. For more information, call The Chamber at (814) 943-8151.

Registration Continues for Chamber Trip to Germany
If an April trip to China doesn’t satisfy your travel needs, have we got a deal for you! From September 18-29, the Blair County Chamber and Classic Travel will offer a 12-day, fully escorted trip to Germany. The trip covers Germany’s most famous cities, includes a day cruise on the Rhine River and also takes place during Oktoberfest.  For further information, call The Chamber at 943-8151.
