Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for March
The Blair County Chamber’s ability to offer quality programming, events, recognition and advocacy efforts depends largely on the willingness of sponsors to step up to help underwrite the costs associated those efforts. So at the end of each month, we publish a list of businesses or individuals who sponsored anything Chamber-related during the month. They have helped us to make a difference in the business community. All-Stars for March are: Aerotek; Boyer Refrigeration; Dibert Supply, LLC; Hollidaysburg Area YMCA; Home Depot; Joshua House; McQuaide Blasko; RE-Bath; Superior Walls by Advanced Concrete and Window World.

Investor Panel Event for YEA! Program is Wednesday
This Wednesday (March 29th) beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Devorris Downtown Center in Altoona, members of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) class will have their first opportunity to pitch their business ideas to the local community. Even more importantly, those pitches will be directed at a panel of investors who will then determine at what level to fund each project. Class members are allotted five minutes to roll-out their projects. There are currently sixteen projects – some students are working independently, others in groups. The Investor Panel is comprised of 11 business leaders. YEA! Program Manager Jim Kilmartin encourages members of the community to come out to the Devorris Downtown Center on the 29th to get a first-hand look at some future Blair County businesses. There is no charge to attend.

Executive Roundtable to Hear Healthcare Presentation
The Blair County Chamber’s Executive Roundtable will meet on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at The Blairmont Club. Guest speakers will be Marion McGowan, Senior VP of Population Health at UPMC and Jim Stults, Senior Director of Sales and Broker Management, also at UPMC. The presentation will focus on how the Trump Administration is likely to impact healthcare and, in particular, health insurance. For more information on the Executive Roundtable, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com

Chamber Safety Committee Workshop to Focus on Accident Investigation
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Safety Committee will present a workshop on Wednesday, April 5th from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. The workshop, entitled, “Accident Investigation 360°”, will examine accident investigation procedures from safety experts and trainers. Topics will include best practice investigations and analysis, investigation basics including how to conduct an investigation, who should be involved, and best ways to document your findings. Presenters will include Caleb Moses of Curry Supply Companies, Brian Bracken of NPC, Inc. and Barbara Hoover Smith of Teeter Group. The cost to attend the safety program is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. The cost includes a breakfast buffet. Call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Coalition on Sustainability to Hold Zero Waste Event
The Blair County Chamber’s Coalition on Sustainability will hold its third annual “Zero Waste Event” on April 7th beginning at noon at the Fiore “Blue Building,” located at 5508 Sixth Avenue (Rear), directly behind Fiore True Value. Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are re-used. This year’s event will begin with a buffet luncheon, followed by a presentation by Penn State Altoona’s ENACTUS students. The cost to attend the Zero Waste Event is $10/person to cover a portion of the luncheon cost. The rest of the event is funded through the sponsorship of Green Home Goods, Sheetz, Inc., Fiore True Value and Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. To register for the event, contact The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Small Business Partners to Host Simulcast on Leadership
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Partners, in cooperation with Express Employment Professionals, will host a “Refresh Leadership” Live Simulcast on Wednesday, April 12th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at The Arc of Blair County, located at 431 Jackson Ave., Altoona. The simulcast will feature a lineup of leadership experts including Patrick Lencioni, leadership consultant, speaker and best-selling author; Jimmy Johnson, two-time Super Bowl champion coach and FOX NFL Sunday analyst; and Robyn Benincasa, motivational speaker and career consultant. The Chamber’s Small Business Partners committee emphasizes the importance of small businesses to the Blair County business community through various educational and networking programs.
