Mount Aloysius College Offers Free Tax Help Cresson, Pa. - Students of Mount Aloysius College’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program are volunteering to help area residents needing assistance with their tax returns again this year. This free service lets tax filers "walk in" and meet with a preparer to drop off their tax return information before being contacted once their returns have been completed usually within 1-2 weeks. The services will be offered from Feb. 10 through Apr. 9, 2020 in ACWC Room 201 on the Mount Aloysius College campus. Mount Aloysius College accounting instructor and VITA program coordinator Michael Shipman explains, “It’s a great program for all parties involved. It’s a free service for those that meet the criteria and the real-world experience for our Mountie accounting students is invaluable.” The experience is much like visiting an accountant. In addition to meeting the IRS income and complexity criteria, taxpayers and their spouses (as applicable) will need to meet IRS identification and documentation requirements as well as sign off on the Mount Aloysius College Service Agreement form if they wish to have their returns prepared. Space may be limited. Excluding specific dates and circumstances, the service will operate on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 7 PM and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 - 4 PM. For more information, such as service agreement forms, identification / documentation requirements, and dates VITA will not be open, please visit www.mtaloy.edu/vita or call (814) 886-6621. Volunteers can also be reached via email at VITA@mtaloy.edu.
