The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is pleased to announce an exhibition with works by artist Josh Leff. This exhibition, titled Reflection/Absorption opens Saturday, Sept 4, 2021 and will be on display through Sunday, December 5, 2021. The exhibition will feature Leff’s hanging sculptures and panoramic projections. The small sculptures, lit from inside, both glow and project light outward. The resulting piece is an overwhelming experience with form, light, and space. Leff’s abstract, otherworldly artwork encourages the viewer to disconnect from their everyday and to explore this light-altered space. Joshua Leff is an artist originally from New England, where he grew up playing in the woods and by lakes and streams. There, he developed a free relationship with the natural environment. It was through these experiences that he realized the dissociation between people and their own nature. In his art practice, Leff creates installations in order to facilitate the wonder and intrigue that he had experienced as a child. Using light and lenses, he creates surreal environments through light projections and built forms. Often encouraging interaction, Leff is interested in using his art to draw out natural responses from viewers. Leff’s artwork facilitates space in which the viewer may forget the everyday and may experience a sense of intuitive wonder. Join us for an evening event at the opening reception with wine, beer, and light refreshments to celebrate the exhibition on Saturday, November 13th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Learn from Josh Leff about his process and inspiration during the artist talk that evening. This event is free to attend, however, we suggest a $10 donation at registration to help support this program and other programs offered by SAMA. Registration is encouraged, but not required, at sama-art.org to help us better prepare for events. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is located in the Brett Building at 1210 11th Avenue Altoona, PA 16601. The hours of operation are 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. All CDC health and COVID-19 social distancing guidelines will be in place. The museum is an accessible facility and is open to the public free of charge.
