Pirates President to Speak at April “Breakfast Club”
Frank Coonelly, President of the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2007, will be the featured speaker at the next Blair County Chamber “Breakfast Club,” set for this Thursday, April 21st beginning at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Prior to coming to the Pirates, Coonelly had served as a Senior Vice-President in the Commissioner’s Office where he was in charge of various matters including arbitration hearings and draft bonuses. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and a law degree from Catholic University. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, contact the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the April Breakfast Club is SCORE! Sports Consignment.

BASICS Holding Industry Tours at Three Locations
Career Placement Personnel from several colleges in the region will get a close-up look at some of Blair County’s top businesses during a bus tour arranged through the BASICS Steering Committee. Committee member Matt Fox of Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation coordinated the tour that will begin at New Pig Corporation in Tipton, will then moved to UPMC Altoona and will conclude at Veeder Root in Duncansville. The purpose of the tour is to help career placement people to get a better sense of employment opportunities that potential graduates might fill. BASICS – Business And Schools Investing in Cooperative Solutions – is a program of the Blair County Chamber.

Chamber Board to Consider Action on Overtime Rule
The Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors will decide whether to sign-on to a letter initiated by the United State Chamber of Commerce that opposes the Department of Labor’s proposed overtime rule. The rule increases the current income threshold for exempt employees by 113% to $50,440/year. Legislation to block this rule has been introduced in both the House and the Senate. The U.S. Chamber’s letter would be sent to all members of Congress.

Amber Terrace Hosting April’s “Business After Hours”
Join the Blair County Chamber of Commerce and Amber Terrace at Altoona Center for Nursing Care for a casino-themed Business After Hours complete with games, drinks and food on Thursday, April 28th. Business After Hours is held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The cost to attend is $6 per Chamber Member pre-registered and $12 for non-members pre-registered. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
