Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for April
The Blair County Chamber’s ability to offer quality programming, events, recognition and advocacy efforts depends largely on the willingness of sponsors to step up to help underwrite the costs associated those efforts. So at the end of each month, we publish a list of businesses or individuals who sponsored anything Chamber-related during the month. They have helped us to make a difference in the business community. All-Stars for April are: Amber Terrace Assisted Living, American Eagle Paper Mills, ARC Federal Credit Union, Catholic Charities, Reliance Bank, SCORE! Sports Consignment, S&T Bank and Sheetz, Inc.

Miller, Weidel Named to Head Committees
The following people have been approved by the Chamber Board of Directors to chair Chamber committees: Patrick Miller of Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation will chair the Transportation Committee and Joy Weidel of Logan Valley Mall will co-chair the Attractions/Hotel Roundtable. Both appointments carry two-year terms.

Judge Kopriva to address Chamber Breakfast Club
Judge Jolene Kopriva will be the keynote speaker at the May 12th Chamber Breakfast Club, set for The Casino at Lakemont Park beginning at 7:45 a.m. The May Breakfast Club traditionally directs attention to the important relationship that needs to exist between the business and education communities for Blair County’s economy to be positively impacted. Judge Kopriva’s presentation will focus on the importance of school attendance as a precursor to good workplace attendance later on. Besides Kopriva’s presentation, the Breakfast Club will also include two sets of awards given through the Chamber’s BASICS program. Eighth grade students from four Blair County schools will receive certificates and gift cards for outstanding essays related to the BASICS Career Fair. High school seniors from nine schools will get similar awards for outstanding attendance. The cost of attending the Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the May Breakfast Club is Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.

Still Availability for the Chamber’s Costa Rica Trip
The Blair County Chamber’s Costa Rica Trip, from October 17-25, is a great opportunity to experience both the beach and the rain forest of that exotic Central American country. The cost is just $2,899 (double). That cost includes ground transportation to and from the airport, round-trip air, air taxes and fees/surcharges, hotel transfers, 13 meals and a variety of tours. There is also an array of optional tours and a 4-day, 3-night Jungle Adventure Post Tour Extension. The Chamber is partnering with Classic Travel and Collette on this trip. To book the Costa Rica trip or for more information, call Classic Travel at (814) 696-3558.

Limited Spots Remain for Chamber Golf Classic
Only about a dozen spots remain for the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Chamber Golf Classic. The Classic will be held next Monday, May 9th at Iron Masters Country Club with a lunch/registration at 11:00 and tee off at Noon. If you are interested, contact Stacy Hoover at The Chamber, 943-8151.

Power Card Offers: They’re Changing Every Day
The Chamber’s Power Card is now in the hands of nearly 30,000 Chamber members and the discounted offers are changing every day.  If you haven’t checked the Power Card list in awhile, you might want to do so. Business Excellence Dinner Sponsorships Available
Marty Marasco, the President/CEO of Altoona-Blair County Development Corporation, will be the 15th recipient of the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence. The award will be presented at the Annual Business Excellence Dinner on June 13th at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Sponsorships for the dinner can be secured by calling Jessie Covert at the Chamber Office or by emailing her at jcovert@blairchamber.com.

Congratulations . . .
. . . to Donald Devorris of Blair Companies, who has been named a winner of the Paul I. Detwiler, III Achievement Award by Junior Achievement.
