Chamber Board Approves Seven New Members
At its September 15th meeting, the Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors approved the following new members: Central States Manufacturing of Claysburg; eLeet Computer Solutions of Altoona, Energy Stewards of State College, The Sinclair Group of Altoona DBA Postal Express/Cashland; Pro/Vision Coaching of Bedford; Select Security of Altoona; and WHVL-TV, LLC of State College.

Executive Roundtable to Hear Young Entrepreneurs Academy Message
Gayle Jagel, founder and president of Young Entrepreneurs Academy in Rochester, New York, will be the speaker at Wednesday’s meeting of the Chamber’s Executive Roundtable. That meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. at The Blairmont Club in Hollidaysburg. The Blair County Chamber is the second chamber in Pennsylvania to start a Young Entrepreneurs Academy. “Canyons and Casinos” Informational Meeting Set for Wednesday
The Blair County Chamber’s first trip of 2017 will be “Canyons and Casinos” while will depart on June 16th and return on the 24th. That 8-night trip will begin with a flight to Phoenix, will include a number of guided motor coach tours and will conclude with two days in Las Vegas prior to flying home. The trip is the Chamber’s way to recognize the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. An informational meeting on this trip will be held this Wednesday, September 21st at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Anyone wishing to attend should contact the Chamber at 943-8151. This trip is being done in partnership with Heritage Travel and Globus. 

Clarion Inn & Suites is Site of Thursday’s “Business After Hours”
September's Business After Hours will be hosted by Clarion Inn & Suites, 3306 Pleasant Valley Blvd. in Altoona on September 22nd from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Don't miss this sports themed event and the many networking opportunities. Cost to attend is $6 for Chamber Members pre-registered and $12 for non-members pre-registered. To make a reservation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Signs-On to Letter Supporting Local Banks, Small Businesses
The Blair County Chamber has signed-on to a letter that is being sent to Congress by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce opposing regulations and other standards that inhibit the ability of local banks and other financial services companies to serve businesses, primarily small businesses. The letter calls-on Congress and federal regulators to consider the implications of these regulations for Main Street companies and their adverse impact on economic growth. For more information or to access the letter, contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Penn State Athletic Director to Speak at WE-LEaD Workshop
The Chamber's WE-LEaD Committee will present a workshop featuring Sandy Barbour, director of athletics for Pennsylvania State University. Barbour’s presentation, “Breaking Barriers: Inspiring Ways to Write Your Own Playbook”, will tell the compelling story of dedication and tenacity that paved the way for Barbour to become one of the nation’s most highly-respected athletic directors. The event will take place from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Thursday., September 28, at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Corporate sponsors for the event are: Blair Companies, Penn State Altoona, Reliance Bank, Salon Professional Academy and Seltzer Financial Strategies. Safety Program to Focus on Responsibility
The Blair County Chamber’s next Safety Program will feature a presentation that will focus on employee’s personal responsibility for safety and how front-line managers and supervisors must set a standard for a safe work environment. The program will be held on September 28th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. Keynote speaker Tony Samento will present, “Taking Responsibility for Safety.” Samento is president of Samento Industrial Training Systems in Mechanicsburg. He has provided training to more than 180,000 employees across the United States. The cost to attend the program is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A breakfast buffet is included. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. DQ Grill & Chill to Host Next “Business Before Hours”
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce will hold its next Business Before Hours next Friday, September 30th, from 7:30-9:00 a.m., at DQ Grill & Chill, located in Logan Town Centre. Business Before Hours is an event to enable networking before you head to the office. There is no cost to attend for Chamber Members. Non-members may attend at $10 per person. Attendees can choose anything off the breakfast menu. To make reservations, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

October “Breakfast Club” Pays Tribute to Farm-City Month
The next Chamber Breakfast Club will be held on October 13th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Since October is “Farm-City Month,” the keynote speaker at the event will be Dave Hileman of Hilecrest Angus who will be talking about the importance of securing our agricultural future by educating our young people. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $18 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the October Breakfast Club is AgChoice Farm Credit.
