New Board Chair Matt Stuckey approved the two along with approving Carol Gensimore whose term on the Board ended but who is required to remain as Immediate Past Chair for an additional year.
Chamber Board Approves New Members
The Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors approved the following new members at its December 15th meeting: The Awardman of Altoona and the Nason Foundation. The Chamber ended 2016 with 1,050 members.
Nominations, Sponsorships Still Available for Chamber Annual Meeting
The Blair County Chamber will officially begin its business year on January 27th when it holds its Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation beginning at 7:30 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The event will take a reflective look at the organization’s accomplishments from 2016, will swear-in the 2017 Board of Directors and will present five special awards to individuals who played key roles in furthering the agenda of the business community last year. The awards that the Chamber will present on the 27th will be: The Athena Ward, sponsored by First Commonwealth Bank; Donna D. Gority Servant Leadership Award, sponsored by Reliance Bank; George Award, sponsored by Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries; Joseph P. Rosenhamer Chamber Spirit Award, sponsored by P. Joseph Lehman, Inc; and Small Business Person of the Year, sponsored by First National Bank. Nomination forms for those awards are available at the Chamber Office and by clicking here. The deadline to nominate is January 2, 2017. There are also sponsorships available to businesses interested in supporting the Annual Meeting. For information on how to get your business’s name attached to a significant event at a reasonable price, call Jessie Covert at 943-8151 or email her at jcovert@blairchamber.com. Lastly, to reserve a seat at the Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online. The cost to attend is $24/person which includes a full buffet breakfast.
Members Invited to Submit Questions to Ask the Blair County Commissioners
The Blair County Commissioners will be the special guests at the January 12th Chamber “Breakfast Club.” Once again in 2017, the format will be Q&A with the questions being submitted by Chamber members and delivered by Cory Gehret, chair of the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee. If you have a question that you’d like to submit for consideration, please email it to jhurd@blairchamber.com by no later than December 30th. The cost to attend the Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber members and $40 for non-members. A full breakfast buffet is included in the cost. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the January Breakfast Club is Altoona-Blair County Airport.
Chamber Increases Prices for Breakfast Club, Business After Hours
To avoid raising dues to its members, the Blair County Chamber is hoping to offset its own cost increases by upping the cost to a few of its program. Beginning January 1st, the cost of the Chamber’s Breakfast Club increases from $18 to $20 for Members and from $20 to $40 for non-members. The member cost of Business After Hours has been raised from $6.00 to $10 and from $15 to $20 for non-members. Businesses that host Business After Hours will now have a $200 fee to pay. Previously, there had been no fee. The $200 entitles the hosting business to twenty comps for the event. Among other increases is that Breakfast Club hosting, which had been $300, is now $325 and Non-Profit Best Practice Forums, which had no cost, now has a $5.00 cost.
