“Managing Volunteers” is Topic of Next Best Practices Forum
Volunteers are an incredible asset to a non-profit business. But all too often, those businesses fail to take full advantage of what a volunteer brings to the table in terms of talent, time and enthusiasm. Join us for a panel discussion on Friday, March 10th from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. The panel for the Forum will consist of Alice Clark, former volunteer manager at Nittany Valley Hospital Center and former president of the board  of the PA Association for Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals; Cheryl White, executive director of Volunteers in Medicine in State College; and Sarah Anderson, Director of Lifelong Learning at Penn State. The discussion will center on fours issues: The gateway to providing opportunities for members of our community to improve your bottom line, ensuring there is community buy-in for an organization’s mission, strengthening an organization’s credibility in the eyes of the public, and answering the question: Is there such a thing as free help? The cost to attend is $5.00 for Chamber members and $10 for non-members. All payments must be made prior to the event or at the door that morning. The Chamber will not bill for this event. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Sponsorships Available for BASICS/Rotary Career Fair
The 2017 BASICS/Rotary Career Fair will be held on April 26th at the Blair County Convention Center. More than 1,200 high school sophomores from throughout the county will hear presentations from nearly 100 business people about exciting career opportunities. To help offset the cost of the event, businesses and individuals can take advantage of sponsorships that provide information about the sponsor to the students. The various sponsorship levels are $500, $350, $200 and $100. For more information, contact Joe Hurd at 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Chamber’s Young Professionals Helping Saint Patrick’s School
The Young Professionals of Blair County will be assisting Saint Patrick’s School in Newry in raising funds through the parish’s annual Lenten Fish Fry. Young Professionals will have an opportunity to volunteer at the March 17th event. Available shifts are: 3:30 – 5:30 and 5:30 – 7:30. Any Young Professional who would be interested in volunteering should call Kristen by March 3rd at (814) 932-5997 or email her at kmsinteriordesigns@gmail.com. All proceeds from the Fish Fry will be used to purchase school supplies, technology, textbooks and extra curricular items.

Small Business Workshop to Focus on Business Valuation
The Blair County Chamber’s Small Business Partners will hold a workshop on March 22nd from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. The workshop, to be presented by Doug Christy of Pro/Vision Coaching, Inc., is entitled “What is Your Business Worth? – Why Your Business Performance and Personal Net Worth Depend Upon It.” Christy will identify areas of concern that businesses should address to stay financially viable and he will explain how to calculate business value and increase it dramatically. The cost to attend the workshop is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. Light refreshments will be served. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
