Chamber Safety Committee Workshop to Focus on Accident Investigation
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Safety Committee will present a workshop this Wednesday, April 5th from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. The workshop, entitled, “Accident Investigation 360°”, will examine accident investigation procedures from safety experts and trainers. Topics will include best practice investigations and analysis, investigation basics including how to conduct an investigation, who should be involved, and best ways to document your findings. Presenters will include Caleb Moses of Curry Supply Companies, Brian Bracken of NPC, Inc. and Barbara Hoover Smith of Teeter Group. The cost to attend the safety program is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. The cost includes a breakfast buffet. Call The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Coalition on Sustainability to Hold Zero Waste Event
The Blair County Chamber’s Coalition on Sustainability will hold its third annual “Zero Waste Event” this Friday, April 7th beginning at noon at the Fiore “Blue Building,” located at 5508 Sixth Avenue (Rear), directly behind Fiore True Value. Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are re-used. This year’s event will begin with a buffet luncheon, followed by a presentation by Penn State Altoona’s ENACTUS students. The cost to attend the Zero Waste Event is $10/person to cover a portion of the luncheon cost. The rest of the event is funded through the sponsorship of Green Home Goods, Sheetz, Inc., Fiore True Value and Leonard S. Leadership Youth Session to Focus on Grants, Future Employment

Small Business Partners to Host Simulcast on Leadership
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Partners, in cooperation with Express Employment Professionals, will host a “Refresh Leadership” Live Simulcast next Wednesday, April 12th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at The Arc of Blair County, located at 431 Jackson Ave., Altoona. The simulcast will feature a lineup of leadership experts including Patrick Lencioni, leadership consultant, speaker and best-selling author; Jimmy Johnson, two-time Super Bowl champion coach and FOX NFL Sunday analyst; and Robyn Benincasa, motivational speaker and career consultant. The Chamber’s Small Business Partners committee emphasizes the importance of small businesses to the Blair County business community through various educational and networking programs. The cost to attend the event is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A continental breakfast is included. Still Time to Qualify for Discount on Canyons and Casinos Trip
The Blair County Chamber’s next exciting trip – Canyons and Casinos – provides travelers an opportunity for a great experience without leaving the United States. The trip is scheduled for June 16 – 24, 2017. The itinerary includes breathtaking views in the southwest including the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Scottsdale and a two-night stay in Las Vegas. Travelers will receive a $107 discount from Globus if their deposit is paid by April 15. Chamber Golf Classic Registrations and Sponsorships Available
Registration are still open for the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Chamber Golf Classic. The Classic will be held on Monday, May 8th at Iron Masters Country Club with a lunch/registration at 11:00 and tee off at Noon. If you are interested, simply complete the registration form and return to The Chamber. Sponsorships are also available for the Classic. “Wake Up to Wellness” Event Set for April 18th
To address some of the key issues associated with keeping mind and body together, the Blair County Chamber’s Workplace Wellness Committee will hold a “Wake-Up to Wellness” program on Tuesday, April 18th from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Altoona Grand Hotel. The title of this Wake-Up to Wellness program is “Check-Up From the Neck-Up.” Among the speakers will be Sarah Pipetti from Sheetz EAP Behavioral Health Counseling who will talk about how mental wellness fits into workplace wellness and how to identify workers who need help with mental health/stress management. Dr. Heather McKinney will speak about Brain Development and how it impacts workforce performance. Jennifer Hrivnak of Vitality Wellness will talk about alternative methods of dealing with mental health challenges and Nick Sefchock of JJAN Financial will discuss resources that businesses might not be aware of from the insurance provider side. Corporate sponsor of this Wake-Up to Wellness program is Vitality Wellness. Young Professionals to Hold Trivia Night at Park Hills
The Young Professionals of Blair County will hold a Pennsylvania Movie Trivia & Networking event on April 20th beginning at 5:30 p. m. at Tavern 27 of Park Hills Golf Club. Rob Z from Hot 100 will be the trivia host. The cost to attend is $5.00/person. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

WE-LEaD Schedules Breakfast Workshop on Social Media
Social media continues to be the fastest growing form of promotion and communication, particularly for businesses without huge marketing budgets. To help businesses gain greater awareness of the many options provided through social media outlets, the Blair County Chamber’s WE-LEaD Committee will be hosting a workshop on Tuesday, April 25th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Park Hills Golf Club. The workshop is entitled, “Beyond the Surface: Developing a Social Media Plan that Actually Works for Your Business.” It will focus on such topics as: How to use analytics, the do’s and don’ts of social media, when and how to use social media and how to develop social media policies. Guest speakers for the workshop are Emily Evey, Social Media Coordinator and Gage Stewart, Social Media Manager, both from EZ To Use Directories / Ogden Directories. The cost to attend the WE-LEaD workshop is $25 for Chamber Members and $35 for non-members. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
