“Wake Up to Wellness” Event Tomorrow at Altoona Grand Hotel
To address some of the key issues associated with keeping mind and body together, the Blair County Chamber’s Workplace Wellness Committee will hold a “Wake-Up to Wellness” program this Tuesday, April 18th from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Altoona Grand Hotel. The title of this Wake-Up to Wellness program is “Check-Up From the Neck-Up.” Among the speakers will be Sarah Pipetti from Sheetz EAP Behavioral Health Counseling who will talk about how mental wellness fits into workplace wellness and how to identify workers who need help with mental health/stress management. Donna Cruse from Lytle EAP Partners who will address the benefits of Employee Assistance Programs. Dr. Heather McKinney will speak about Brain Development and how it impacts workforce performance. Jennifer Hrivnak of Vitality Wellness will talk about alternative methods of dealing with mental health challenges and Nick Sefchock of JJAN Financial will discuss resources that businesses might not be aware of from the insurance provider side. Corporate sponsor of this Wake-Up to Wellness program is Vitality Wellness. Chamber Board of Directors to Meet Thursday
The Board of Directors of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce will meet on Thursday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Among the Board’s agenda items will be creating a strategy for Chamber Membership Month (set for May) as well as discussion concerning a possible re-branding of the organization. To address the Board, please call Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 by noon on Tuesday.

Two Important Reminders!!
The Blair County Chamber Foundation Board, which meets Wednesday at the Devorris Center, wants to remind Chamber Members that the Foundation is an approved 501 C-3 organization for businesses to obtain Educational Improvement Tax Credits (EITC). Interested businesses should contact Cindy Cessna at (814) 943-8151. Those tax credits help fund the Chamber’s BASICS program. Also: We want to remind our members that they can read the Blair Business Mirror each month online, simply by being a subscriber to the printed version of the Mirror. Young Professionals to Hold Trivia Night This Thursday at Park Hills
The Young Professionals of Blair County will hold a Pennsylvania Movie Trivia & Networking event this Thursday, April 20th beginning at 5:30 p. m. at Tavern 27 of Park Hills Golf Club. Rob Z from Hot 100 will be the trivia host. The cost to attend is $5.00/person. To register, call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 
Non-Profit Legislative Breakfast is Friday at The Arc of Blair County
The Blair County Chamber’s Committee of Non-Profit Businesses has invited key legislators to attend a breakfast meeting this Friday, April 21st from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at The Arc of Blair County. “This is the sixth year that we’ve held this event and our legislators have been very open to our issues,” explained Maria Brandt, who chairs the Committee. “They have a pretty good understanding of the important impact that non-profits play in our communities and our relationship with them seems to grow each year.” This year’s attendees will be U.S. Congressman Bill Shuster, State Senator John Eichelberger and State Representative John McGinnis. State Representative Judy Ward, a past attendee, has a scheduling conflict and will be unable to attend this year. The Committee of Non-Profit Businesses is one of the Chamber’s largest and most active. Anyone, for-profit or non-profit, is welcome to attend the Legislative Breakfast. The cost is $20/person for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Safety Committee Tour of Albemarle Takes Place Friday
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Safety Committee has scheduled a safety tour for this Friday, April 21st , from 9 – 11 a.m., at Albemarle Corporation, located at 2858 Back Vail Road in Tyrone. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. Cost includes a light breakfast. No open toe or high heel shoes are permitted. Long pants are required. If you have steel toed boots, please wear them. Safety equipment will be provided. WE-LEaD Schedules Breakfast Workshop on Social Media
Social media continues to be the fastest growing form of promotion and communication, particularly for businesses without huge marketing budgets. To help businesses gain greater awareness of the many options provided through social media outlets, the Blair County Chamber’s WE-LEaD Committee will be hosting a workshop on Tuesday, April 25th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Park Hills Golf Club. The workshop is entitled, “Beyond the Surface: Developing a Social Media Plan that Actually Works for Your Business.” It will focus on such topics as: How to use analytics, the do’s and don’ts of social media, when and how to use social media and how to develop social media policies. Guest speakers for the workshop are Emily Evey, Social Media Coordinator and Gage Stewart, Social Media Manager, both from EZ To Use Directories / Ogden Directories. The cost to attend the WE-LEaD workshop is $25 for Chamber Members and $35 for non-members. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Golf Classic Registrations and Sponsorships Still Available
Registration are still open for the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Chamber Golf Classic. The Classic will be held on Monday, May 8th at Iron Masters Country Club with a lunch/registration at 11:00 and tee off at Noon. If you are interested, simply complete the registration form and return to The Chamber. Sponsorships are also available for the Classic.
