Annual Business Excellence Dinner is Tonight at The Casino
This evening, Ann Benzel of Benzel’s Pretzel Bakery will receive the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence. The Chamber’s Business Excellence Dinner will be held at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Congratulations to Ann as she becomes the 17th recipient of the award, which honors individuals in Blair County who have made a strong impact on the Blair County business community as well as the community in general for an extended period of time.

Blair Business Mirror to Be Published Tuesday
The June edition of the Blair Business Mirror will be published tomorrow as a supplement to the Altoona Mirror. This month’s cover story focuses on the Chamber’s highly-successful Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program which recently graduated its second class. The Business Mirror also contains stories on the Early Childhood Summit and the Safety Fair – two Chamber events that really hit the mark on topics of great importance to Blair County. Pick up a copy of the Altoona Mirror tomorrow so that you don’t need to wait until your mailed copy arrives. Just a reminder: The Blair Business Mirror is not published during the month of July. The next publication date is August 14th.

Kopriva to Speak at Thursday’s “Breakfast Club”
It may have a new name and a more far-reaching marketing approach, but the impact that the Blair Regional YMCA has had on the quality of life of the community remains profound. That impact will be the topic of a presentation at the next Blair County Chamber “Breakfast Club,” set for this Thursday, June 14th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. Tom Kopriva, who retired as Executive Director of the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA last December, will present “Three Things That You Didn’t Know About the YMCA.” Kopriva’s presentation will highlight the Y’s charitable activities, its programs and services and what’s on the horizon. The Breakfast Club will also feature the awarding of two scholarships to area high school sophomores who wrote outstanding essays following the BASICS/Rotary Career Fair, held in April. Wagner & Finn Attorneys at Law is the corporate sponsor of the June Breakfast Club. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Filled Out Your Sustainability Certification Survey Yet?
Chamber-member businesses interested in assessing where they are from a sustainability standpoint will have the opportunity to complete a Sustainability Certification Survey. The survey can be completed online and the results will be compiled and the business notified of the results within a two-month period. One of the other benefits of completing the survey is that the committee will then assign a certification level – gold, silver or bronze – which businesses can then use for marketing purposes. While the committee is still working out the details of the certification process, it’s also looking to compile a Resource List to help businesses who will be looking for assistance in raising their scores. Any Chamber-member business interested in accessing the Sustainability Certification Survey should click here.

Deadline Approaching for Business Hall of Fame Nominations
Although the Blair County Chamber’s Business Hall of Fame Dinner won’t take place until October, the nomination process is just about completed. Individuals may nominate businesses for any of eight different awards by downloading a Nomination Form from the Chamber Website. Self-nominations are also accepted. The deadline to nominate is June 14th at noon.

“Buy Here Bucks” a Win-Win for Buyers, Sellers
The Blair County Chamber’s new gift certificate program, known as “Buy Here Bucks,” is a way for local businesses to gain new customers and an even better way for people to give gift certificates with more than just a few places to redeem them. The larger the list of participating businesses, the greater the value of the certificates. For a business to register to be on that list (it costs Chamber Members nothing), contact Tori Liebal at (814) 943-8151 or email her. To purchase Buy Here Bucks, visit the Chamber Website. You can also get them at the Chamber Office, located in the Devorris Center for Business Development.

Congratulations . . .
. . . to  Don Ruggery, Sr., Don Ruggery, Jr., and Jay Ruggery, who were recently honored by Spherion Staffing Services with the company’s 2017 President’s Award. The award recognizes those ownership teams who have best achieved continuous sales growth and demonstrated an overall commitment to local workforce improvement and community development.
. . . to the Marketing and Communications team at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, which recently earned national recognition for its efforts in marketing through video production. The award came from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations.
