Chamber Board of Directors Approves Nine New Members
At its June 21st meeting, the Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors approved the following new members: Bradford Recovery Center of Millerton, PA; Dorman’s Sports Performance of Altoona; Eardley Financial Agency of Hollidaysburg; The Hungry Duck of Roaring Spring; Jim Gregory for State Representative of Hollidaysburg; Juiced Smoothie and Coffee Bar, LLC of Altoona; KCBA Architects of Altoona; Refuge Youth Network of Altoona: and Revival Fitness & Rehab of Altoona.

Penn-Mont Academy to Host Business After Hours
The next Blair County Chamber “Business After Hours” will be held this Thursday, June 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Penn-Mont Academy, located at 131 Holiday Hills Drive in Hollidaysburg. Cost to attend is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Committee Leadership Positions Announced
The Blair County Chamber Board and Directors approved the following members to undertake leadership positions for the next two years:  James Gerraughty of Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission will chair the Leadership Blair County Youth Committee; David Hileman of Hilecrest Angus will be vice-chair of the Farm-City Committee; and John Moryken, a retired business leader, will be co-chair of the BASICS Steering Committee.

Transportation Projects List Gets Okay from Chamber Board
The Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors approved a recommendation from its Transportation Committee that endorsed a series of projects put forward by PennDOT that will increase the accessibility to local businesses and include much-needed infrastructure upgrades. The specific projects involved will be highlighted in the August issue of the Blair Business Mirror.

Early Childhood Subcommittee to Move Ahead on Acquiring Funding
The quality and depth of Blair County’s future workforce will be highly dependent on the willingness of community business leaders to assist young people currently excluded from opportunities to be part of early learning programs. For that reason, the Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors has given permission to the BASICS Subcommittee on Early Childhood Education to launch a campaign this fall that would bring significant dollars into the community to not only make those programs available to more people in the 0-5 age group but also to help high quality providers to expand their services. For more information on the BASICS Early Childhood program, contact Joe Hurd at (814) 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com.

Registration Underway for bizX Event
The bizX event is off-and-running. The business showcase that was born out of a partnership between the Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County is now accepting exhibitors and sponsors. The event is scheduled for September 26th at the Blair County Convention Center.  Among the sponsorships that are available are the Seminar Sponsorship and several Supporting Sponsorships. To access information on those sponsorships, contact Jessie Covert at jcovert@blairchamber.com. Booth sales are also expected to be brisk.  The cost of a 10’x10’ foot booth is $250 for small businesses (50 employees and under) and $350 for large businesses (51 + employees). To reserve a booth, contact Stacy Hoover at shoover@blairchamber.com. More information on the specifics of the luncheon which precedes the trade show as well as the mixer that follows it will be released in the coming weeks.

Want to Learn More About How to Get Involved in the Chamber?
If you are a current member of the Blair County Chamber who would like to know more about what the Chamber does or if you’d like to hear about ways that you can get more involved in Chamber programs, events and committees, consider this opportunity: The Chamber will hold a “Chamber Check-Up” program on June 28th at 3:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. This interactive program will last no more than one hour. There is no cost to attend. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Those who attend will then have the opportunity to attend the Business After Hours at 5:00 p.m. that same day at no cost. That’s a $10 savings.

Filled Out Your Sustainability Certification Survey Yet?
Chamber-member businesses interested in assessing where they are from a sustainability standpoint will have the opportunity to complete a Sustainability Certification Survey. The survey can be completed online and the results will be compiled and the business notified of the results within a two-month period. One of the other benefits of completing the survey is that the committee will then assign a certification level – gold, silver or bronze – which businesses can then use for marketing purposes. While the committee is still working out the details of the certification process, it’s also looking to compile a Resource List to help businesses who will be looking for assistance in raising their scores. Any Chamber-member business interested in accessing the Sustainability Certification Survey should click here.

“Buy Here Bucks” a Win-Win for Buyers, Sellers
The Blair County Chamber’s new gift certificate program, known as “Buy Here Bucks,” is a way for local businesses to gain new customers and an even better way for people to give gift certificates with more than just a few places to redeem them. The larger the list of participating businesses, the greater the value of the certificates. For a business to register to be on that list (it costs Chamber Members nothing), contact Tori Liebal at (814) 943-8151 or email her. To purchase Buy Here Bucks, visit the Chamber Website. You can also get them at the Chamber Office, located in the Devorris Center for Business Development.
