Business Hall of Fame is Tonight at the Convention Center
The big night has finally arrived. Tonight is the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Annual Business Hall of Fame event at the Blair County Convention Center. The event begins with a cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception at 5:30 followed by dinner and the awards program at 6:45. Unfortunately, the deadline to register to attend the dinner has passed. More than 400 persons are expected to attend.

FMLA, ADA & Workers' Comp topic of Safety/HRMA Workshop 
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Safety Committee and the Human Resource Management Group will be holding a joint workshop this Wednesday, October 17 from 7:45 -10:00 a.m. at Park Hills Golf Club. The workshop is s entitled "FMLA, ADA & Workers' Comp: How They Interplay" and will be presented by Jill Lashay. The cost to attend the workshop is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. Next “Business After Hours” Will Be Held at UPMC Logan Medical Building
This Thursday, October 18th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., UPMC Altoona will host the next Chamber “Business After Hours” at the Logan Medical Building. Cost to attend is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 

WE-LEaD to Host Networking Event
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce WE-LEaD (Women Encouraging – Leadership, Education and Development) committee will host a networking event geared towards women in the business community on Monday, October 22, from 5 - 7 p.m. on the patio at Park Hills Golf Club. The event, sponsored by Advantage Resource Group, will feature hot hors d’oeuvres and beverages. WE-LEaD is an innovative program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce that provides networking and educational programs throughout the year.
The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members and includes two complimentary beverage tickets. To register, contact The Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.
 

“Wake Up to Wellness” Scheduled for October 22nd
The Workplace Wellness Committee of the Chamber will hold a “Wake Up to Wellness” program on Monday, October 22nd from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at The Arc of Blair County in Altoona. The program will feature best practices from a variety of businesses – large and small – that are doing effective things to encourage employee health. The cost to attend is $15/person and will include a full breakfast. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
 

Chamber, Heritage Travel to Offer “Southern Sounds”
For the past several years, the Blair County Chamber has featured a number of trips, primarily in Asia and Europe. But the Chamber will stay closer to home for its first trip in 2019 and it’s a trip that will appeal to all ages and interests. Mostly musical interests. From July 28th to August 4th, the Chamber and its partner – Heritage Travel – will head to New Orleans, then to Tupelo, onto Memphis and, finally Nashville before flying home. The trip includes a Mississippi River dinner cruise, a tour of Graceland and a visit to the Grand Ole Opry. The cost is just $2,575 (plus air). The Chamber will hold an informational session on the “Southern Sounds” trip on October 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. There is no cost or obligation to attend but registration is strongly encouraged. Call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 to register.
 

Seminar on Leadership to Be Offered in Martinsburg
In an effort to move some of our educational programming to various locations in the county, the Chamber will be hold a special breakfast seminar on Friday, October 26th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Homewood Retirement Community in Martinsburg. The presentation will be entitled, “Leadership Blind Spots.”  The speaker will be John Rodgers from J.R. Rodgers & Associates, a Dale Carnegie Franchise. The cost to attend is $18/person which includes a full breakfast. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
 
Can't Miss Marketing Opportunities for Farm-City Dinner
The Blair County Chamber’s Annual Farm-City Dinner will be held at the Freedom Township Fire Hall on Thursday, November 1st. Farm-City Dinner to Feature ACE Award Presentation
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Farm-City Committee will host its annual Farm-City Dinner on Thuvrsday, November 1, at Freedom Township Fire Hall, 139 Municipal Street, East Freedom. A milk-punch reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a family-style turkey dinner at 7 p.m. The featured speaker for the evening will be former Pennsylvania State Dairy Princess Yvonne Longenecker of Williamsburg. Yvonne is a graduate of Central High School and is currently pursuing a degree in Food Science at Penn State. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Blair County Agricultural Community Excellence (ACE) Award. The award is designed to honor individuals, farm families, agribusinesses or agricultural organizations in acknowledgement of exceptional contributions to the agricultural industry. This year, The Chamber Farm-City Committee will honor the Tyrone Area Future Farmers of America Chapter. Dinner tickets are available at $20 per person. For reservations, contact the Blair County Chamber of Commerce at 814-943-8151 or register online.
