The Chamber’s Committee of Non-Profit Businesses has set its next Best Practices Forum for this Friday, December 7th from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development.  The forum will focus attention on social media and the impact that it is having on both the business and education communities.  Among the presenters will be Professor Kelly Rhodes of Saint Francis University, accompanied by a number of her students, who will provide insight into how “Gen Z” uses social media. The other presenter will be Rob Z, who will address social media platforms beyond Facebook and will talk about who is using them and how non-profits can look at ways to recruit dollars and volunteers by being more aware of social media options. The cost to attend the Best Practices Forum is $10 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members.  To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber, Penn State Altoona Once Again Partnering on Student Showcase

The Blair County Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Club program, set for December 13th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park, will feature Congressman-Elect Dr. John Joyce. In his presentation, Dr. Joyce will discuss his vision for the new district (PA-13) and outline his goals as a newly elected representative. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. Data Security Workshop Set for December 18th
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce has put together a panel of data security experts who will be the featured presenters at a Data Security Workshop on December 18th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Blair County Convention Center. The panel consists of: Josh Barnhart of NPC, Inc., Joe Harford of Reclamere, Inc., Tim Serbin of Link Computer Corporation, and David Wertz of PC Works Plus, Inc. It is a group that is well-versed on data security matters and who have witnessed the consequences of not being adequately prepared. Rather than simply creating a workshop based on a broad range of data security issues, the Chamber conducted a survey for members to weigh-in on specific concerns. Those survey results will form the basis of what is discussed at the workshop. The cost to attend the Data Security Workshop is $30 for Chamber Members and $40 for non-members. A full buffet breakfast is included in the price. To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.
