Happy New Year!
2019 will be an incredibly important year for the Blair County business community. For that reason, the Chamber is hopeful that its members will continue to support the many programs and events that spur a vibrant economy. If your New Years’ resolutions included a commitment to get more involved in the Chamber, we look forward to helping you make that happen. Just give Joe Hurd a call at (814) 943-8151 or email him at jhurd@blairchamber.com. He’ll be happy to accommodate your desire to make your Chamber Membership even more valuable. On behalf of the Chamber, we wish all of our members a happy and prosperous New Year!

Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for December
The Blair County Chamber’s ability to offer quality programming, events, recognition and advocacy efforts depends largely on the willingness of sponsors to step up to help underwrite the costs associated those efforts.  So at the end of each month, we publish a list of businesses or individuals who sponsored anything Chamber-related during the month. They have helped us to make a difference in the business community. All-Stars for December are: Altoona Mirror, Circle of Life Holistic Health Center Inc., Debbie Eckenrode Farmers Insurance, Howard Hanna Johnston Realty Services and WTAJ-TV Your News Leader.

Fiore to Replace Grimm as Board Chair-Elect
Mike Grimm’s resignation from the Blair County Chamber Board to accept a position outside Blair County created a need to fill the position of Board Chair-Elect. On December 20th, the Board filled that position by appointing Richard Fiore, Jr. of Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. to the post. At the same time, the Board accepted the resignation of Jerry Murray of UPMC Altoona and approved board positions for Jan Fisher of UPMC Altoona and Stephanie Doliveira of Sheetz, Inc. Leonard Fiore, III of Fiore Brothers Management and Leslie Estep of Tyrone Area School District were added to the board as Board Chair Appointments.

Chamber Board Approves Nine New Members
The Board of Directors of the Blair County Chamber approved nine new members at the December 20th board meeting. The new members are: Escape Altoona, Hampton Medical Direct Primary Care of Altoona, Jersey Mike’s Subs of Altoona, W.H. Kelly & Son Monuments of Altoona, Peerstar LLC of Altoona, Representative Louis C. Schmitt, Jr., Seven Mountains Media of State College, State Senator Judy Ward, and Sweat For Vets, Inc. of Altoona.

Blair County Commissioners to Speak at January “Breakfast Club”
Blair County Commissioners Bruce Erb, Ted Beam and Terry Tomassetti will be the guest speakers at the first Chamber “Breakfast Club” of 2019 scheduled for January 10th at 7:45 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park.  As in the past, the format for the Breakfast Club involving elected officials is Q&A with questions being provided by Chamber members, coordinated by the Public Policy Committee.  Public Policy Chair Greg White of Forney Financial Solutions will ask the questions.  The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members.  To register, contact the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor of the January Breakfast Club is Keller Engineers.
