Chamber Office Closed Monday for King Holiday
The Blair County Chamber Office will be closed on Monday in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. The office will re-open on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. To access Chamber information or to register for a program or event, visit the Chamber Website.
 

Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation Set for This Friday
The Blair County Chamber’s Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation will take place this Friday, January 25th beginning at 7:30 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park. The awards that will be presented that morning are the Athena Award, the Small Business Person of the Year, the George Award, the Donna D. Gority Servant Leadership Award, the Joseph P. Rosenhamer Chamber Spirit Award and the Young Professional of the Year Award. None of the award recipients will be identified in advance, another longstanding tradition. Anyone wanting to attend the Annual Meeting Awards should contact the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Safety Presentation on Opioid Epidemic is Wednesday at Hoss’s
The Safety Committee of the Blair County Chamber will complete a three-part series of presentations dealing with the county’s Opioid Epidemic this Wednesday, January 23rd from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. This presentation will focus on “Second Chances in the Workplace” and will include a panel discussion involving John McNeal, William Amigh and Erin Leamer of Blair Drug & Alcohol; Cory Seymour, Chief, Blair County Adult Probation & Parole, and Troy Mays, Director of Nursing, Cove Forge Behavioral Health. You do not have to have attended the previous two parts of the series to attend this one. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online.

Encompass Health to Host Thursday’s “Business After Hours”
The next Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held this Thursday, January 24 from 5 -7 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona, 2005 Valley View Blv., Altoona. Cost to attend is $10 for Chamber Members and $20 for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Check-Up: A Great Way to Learn About the Chamber
If you are a current member of the Blair County Chamber who would like to know more about what the Chamber does or if you’d like to hear about ways that you can get more involved in Chamber programs, events and committees, consider this opportunity: The Chamber will hold a “Chamber Check-Up” program this Thursday, January 24th  at 3:00 p.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. This interactive program will last no more than one hour. There is no cost to attend. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151. Those who attend will then have the opportunity to attend the Business After Hours at 5:00 p.m. that same day at no cost. That’s a $10 savings.

Chamber Board of Directors Approves Four New Members
The Board of Directors of the Blair County Chamber met Thursday and approved the following new members: CMIT Solutions of Central Pennsylvania; Farmers Insurance, Tina Moore Agency of Claysburg; Ingenuity Media of Tyrone; and L.R. Kimball – A CDI Company of Ebensburg.
  

Neil Hollander Appointed to the Chamber Board
Neil Hollander, Chief Commercial Officer at Altoona Pipe & Steel, has been appointed to the Blair County Chamber’s Board of Directors to fill the unexpired term of Michael Grimm who resigned his position in December to accept an employment opportunity outside the county.

Ready to Travel in 2019?  South Africa, Sicily Spots Remain
The Chamber is still taking reservations for two trips that the organization is offering during 2019. The first trip is “The Best of South Africa” from September 13-25. The trip includes visits to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Kruger Game Reserve.  For more information on this trip, contact Heritage Travel at (814) 946-1600. The second trip will leave October 18th and return on the 28th. The trip is officially dubbed “The Sicilain” and it includes visits to Palermo, Erice, Motya, Marsala, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina, Ragusa, Modica, Syracuse, Savoca and Taormina. Reserve Your Booth Today for the 2019 Home & Garden Show!
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Blair Bedford Builders Association are continuing to accept vendor booth reservations for the 49th annual Blair County Home & Garden Show to be held March 1, 2 & 3, 2019 at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. Exhibitor booth space is open for home and garden-related businesses interested in showcasing their products or services. The show is also accepting vendor applications for the Home Treasures room. Home Treasures offers a boutique-style setting that features home interior items, candles, spices, hand-crafted items, and much more. To reserve a booth or for more information, call Stacy Hoover at the Blair County Chamber of Commerce at 814-943-8151.
