The next Blair County Chamber Breakfast Club program, set for this Thursday, March 14th from 7:45 - 9:00 a.m. at The Casino at Lakemont Park, will be directing its attention to the many accomplishments of Operation Our Town, a community and business partnership that promotes healthy neighborhoods and protects its citizens from illegal drug use and resulting crime. During the Breakfast Club, the 2019 Operation Our Town Community Partnership Award will be presented to Amtran. The 2019 Law Enforcement Awards will also be presented. Attorney Pete Weeks will provide an update on current drug trends that the District Attorney’s Office confronts in its effort to keep the community safe. The cost to attend Breakfast Club is $20 per person and includes a full breakfast buffet. For more information or to make reservations call the Chamber at 943-8151 or register online.

Chamber Recognizes “All-Stars” for February
The Blair County Chamber’s ability to offer quality programming, events, recognition and advocacy efforts depends largely on the willingness of sponsors to step up to help underwrite the costs associated those efforts. So at the end of each month, we publish a list of businesses or individuals who sponsored anything Chamber-related during the month. They have helped us to make a difference in the business community. All-Stars for February are: Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08, DQ Grill & Chill, and Stuckey Automotive.

Safety Committee to Offer Program on Disaster Preparation
The Blair County Chamber’s Safety Committee will offer a program entitled “Emergency Preparedness for Business” on March 20th from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House in Duncansville. The program is coordinated through the South Central Mountains Regional Task Force (SCMRTF) and the Business Continuity and Preparedness Coalition (BCPC). The presenters will be Mark Taylor, Director of Public Safety for the Blair County Department of Emergency Services and Cheryl Johnson, Executive Director of the Private Industry Council of the Central Corridor. The cost to attend is $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for non-members. A breakfast buffet is included. To register, call the Chamber at (814) 943-8151 or register online. Corporate sponsor is Stuckey Automotive.

YEA! Students to Present Business Projects to Investor Panel
The students in the current class of the Blair County Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program will present their business projects to a panel of local investors at a special Investor Panel event to be held on March 19th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Devorris Downtown Center. A reception for class members, their parents and the Investor Panel members will be held prior to the presentations at 5:00 p.m. There is no cost for people to attend the presentations and the public is invited to attend. This is the third class of students to participate in the YEA! program. The Investor Panel will determine the amount of funds to be allocated to the students to complete their businesses. The Panel will also select a Most Outstanding Business.  Representatives from that business will travel to Rochester, New York in May to compete in the national YEA! competition.

“Chamber Chat” Provides Information to Potential Chamber Members
If you are a member of the Blair County Chamber and know of a non-member business who you feel could benefit from Chamber membership, it might be a good idea for you to recommend “Chamber Chat.” That one hour program, which will be held at the Devorris Center for Business Development on March 14th at 3:00 p.m., will provide information to non-members on the many benefits of belonging to the Chamber. And if they attend and then join, the member who referred them will receive a $25 gift card to the Chamber Member business of their choice. A great deal, wouldn’t you agree? If you recommend someone, have then call the Chamber at 943-8151 to register for Chamber Chat. We’ll make sure it’s worth your while!
